Interior designers often talk about sightlines. They're the natural path your eye travels when you enter or move through a room.

Most people never think about this consciously, but they feel it. Art placed directly in a sightline changes a room immediately.

Placement is as intentional as the work itself.

The Angel of the Artists (El ángel de los artistas)

Dimensions: 20 x 28 inches
Technique: Linocut, hand-illuminated
Series: Porrones
Year: 2016

Description:

The Angel of the Artists explores the mystical notion that every creator is guided by a celestial presence in their artistic process. Inspired by the idea that each artist has an angel who illuminates their path in the act of creation, this piece reflects the connection between art and the divine, between inspiration and spirituality.

Through the hand-illuminated linocut technique, Vargas Artiz masterfully captures the essence of this belief, emphasizing the intervention of the intangible in the artist’s work. The play of contrasts, textures, and light within the composition evokes the sensation of a heavenly guide whispering ideas, enlightening the mind, and directing the creator’s hand.

As part of the Porrones series, this piece belongs to a body of work that delves into the intersection between the human and the divine, using elements of the Afro-Cuban imaginary to represent the relationship between art, faith, and transcendental inspiration.

A lot of people hold off on collecting art because they rent and feel uncertain about committing to walls they do not own. But art does not belong to a wall. It belongs to you.

Renting is not a reason to live with bare walls. It is a reason to collect work that matters enough to keep moving (and growing) with you.

"Rise Up (Levántate)" and my other work are connected to the people who love them, not just the places they're displayed.

Unmasking Pain 2018

"Unmasking Pain", from the 'Bitter Sweet' series, presents a visceral depiction of the internal struggle against psychological manipulation and passive abuse. The figure, captured in a gesture of anguish, holds a mask that decomposes, symbolizing the fragmentation of her sense of self under the weight of abuse. The somber tones and dynamic composition underscore the intensity of the internal conflict, while the disintegration of the mask reveals the stark reality of hidden suffering. This work invites a deep reflection on resilience and the search for authenticity in the midst of emotional adversity."
