Forty four and blessed. ✨

It's my birthday! I've decided that new year resolutions are stupid. Now with each birthday, I'm choosing something to focus on. This year it will be painting (with a touch of live drawing classes).

I've always longed to paint, but have had an irrational fear of the blank canvas. So I catapulted myself into a painting retreat, and it showed me a glimpse of what I'm capable of.

The chicest of personalized matchbooks. ✨ Celebrating 25 years of International Plaza and Bay St with some of the best.

If you don't know yet, I'm Dawn, 👋🏼 Florida-based calligraphy artist. I engraved these silver matchbooks onsite for Internationa Plaza to celebrate their birthday, and the people who make this space special. Each matchbook was completely personalized, and came pre-filled with matches and strike paper. Guests had the option to choose whatever they'd like engraved, and I loved hearing the stories behind each choice.

Would it shock you to learn that there are MANY in the wedding industry who haven't heard of a live calligraphy artist?

It shocked me! I assumed this was a well known option with people in the industry, but surprise! It's not, and I take that as my cue to introduce them. 🙋🏼‍♀️

These bridal open houses are not only a great way to showcase the exciting experiences we bring to weddings. They're a chance to showcase who you are. What your vibe is. I absolutely love the table decorating (a surprise to me), figuring out what works well, and what I'd change next time. It's fun to create a tangible "landscape" for First Light.

Friends, October will be a very busy month for me. First, I'll be traveling to England, to see my old stomping grounds and visit one of my closest friends. That's followed with a painting retreat with dear Jodi - Montreal Live Event & Wedding Painter to channel the inner artist hiding within me. The end of the month will find me all the way in Montana, where I'll soak up the mountains and cold (I'm sure) air.

So, needless to say, my calendar for events is extremely limited. I've had three inquiries in the last 24 hours, so please, if you are in need, reach out asap so I can do my best to help.

A little taste of my most recent engraving event with Kendra Scott ✨

I've been playing around with taking more still videos at events. Why? Because I like it. 😆 In all seriousness, so many videos are edited to be quick. Grab your attention, and get moving. I've realized they just make my brain hurt. So I'm happily experimenting with slowing down, and savoring each moment.

I love the event space. The people watching. Making new connections through craft. Seeing what guests naturally gravitate to. Reading the room. Feeling the overall vibe of the space, and allowing myself to fit in with that as naturally as I can. It's all part of being a live event engraver. 💖

A 40th birthday party to be remembered! 🍾

Guests were surprised at their second stop of the evening with their choice of a calligraphied quote. 🖋️ They also received a personalized bookmark (to tuck into their new books from the first stop).

Being tucked away inside the vault The W**e Room on Park Avenue was the ultimate vibe. 🍷 Custom signage, forms on handmade paper, along with some vintage treasures, all helped to create this one of a kind moment.

This was such a fun, thought out party. Every touch point was well planned, and I was thrilled to be a part of it. Happiest birthday to Anne Marie! 🫶🏼📚
