Step 1 of the process:
Prepping a book for audiobook narration begins with a thorough read-through, allowing me to absorb the story, understand character arcs, and identify emotional beats. I take detailed notes on character traits, ages, accents, and relationships, and I flag any unfamiliar pronunciations or foreign phrases for research. As I read, I also map out tone and pacing shifts—when the energy should lift, when to pull back for introspection, or when tension should subtly build. I mark dialogue cues, so character voices remain consistent, and I keep a running list of names, settings, and timeline references to ensure continuity. This prep work is essential—it allows me to enter the booth confident, fully immersed, and ready to bring the author’s vision to life with clarity and emotional truth.
