Work in progress- New art chair: Faith Ringgold’s American People series. I am making a chair with interchangeable/ reversible cushions to illustrate Ringgold’s iconic typography work. Everything is hand lettered and painted by me.

Finished! Last commission project of the year for me!🎉 I easily spend 20+ hours creating a single pair of shoes, not counting the research part of it. When I’m asked where my ideas come from, it’s pretty simple- I pay attention to the smallest details. You can pull a lot from only a couple of photos. For these: I took inspiration from Riley’s purse strap and fairy crown and then looked for references based on boho florals and art nouveau fonts. For Brooke’s shoes, I chose to add a black and gray checkerboard pattern to tie in with her pool float. It helps that I taught high school art for close to 16 years. I get what’s trending.
