An outstanding flea market find yesterday ($2.) This entire issue discusses history of the Office, some family history of its inhabitants, the whirlwind of getting there, how the White House is both a workplace and a home and also some tidbits about speechwriters, etc. I find the timing of this special issue interesting: I'm sure it was planned months earlier to be ready for the conventions and leading up to November, but who knew just how hellish 1968 would be overall in regards to political turmoil, recent assassinations (on top of Kennedy's just 4.5 years earlier) and certainly no one saw what would be going down in Chicago, just over a month later. However it's not written with any topical slants and the section discussing Johnson's White House/administration is more of a "day to day" observation vs Party politics - but then again, it's quality work by Hugh Sidey.
