And now for some pens I plan on selling (unless my wife sees the previous post). My order of Vivid Renaissance pen blanks came in so I made a few pens with some of them. The first is a Majestic Jr Rollerball pen with a Chrome and Gun Metal finish. That combo of pen and blank makes a great looking pen.

The next two are using the same blank. The one on the left is a Bolt Action Tec pen with a gold finish and the other is a Sierra pen with a matte black finish. I had forgotten I had the matte black and came across them this morning.

I liked that finish so well that I made the green and black acrylic blank into another Sierra with the matte black. I t will be hard to lose this pen.

My wife asked me (told me?) to make her a couple of Olivewood Slimline pens, each with a cross clip, that she could GIVE to a couple of people in her garden club. How am I supposed to make a living giving away pens? Oh wait, I have ready made a living and this I just a hobby. I give some away too. Nevermind.

I finished up a couple more of the hybrid blanks yesterday. These were made with Jr Gentleman parts.

The green Sweet Gum is paired with gun metal finished rollerball parts highlighting the brown cross sections of the seed pods.

The second is a chrome finished fountain pen using another piece of the Ligustrum in a blue resin. That was my last Ligustrum hybrid blank that I have cast. I do have enough remaining wood to cast about 8 more blanks. Hope I can match that blue color.

Rain caused the Downtown Market to be cancelled on Saturday so I spent some time in the shop turning some of the hybrid blanks I made last month. Looking at my inventory I realized that I had sold almost all the ones I had turned. I made used the blanks on some pen styles where I usually don’t use hybrids.

The first two a on Bolt Action Tec pens, one gun metal and the other antique brass. The length of the material needed was exactly half of the size of the blank, so I made two. Even though they were both from the same blank, the two pieces are only the same in color.

The second is a Sierra pen made with a leftover remnant of a blank I used on a previous pen. Glad I kept that remnant as it was a perfect size.

The previous blanks were hybrids made with Big Leaf Maple with bark and a sapphire blue mica powder colored resin. The third picture is a Continental Rollerball with a Ligustrum wood and lighter blue resin. I found this piece in the bottom is the box I put my hybrid castings in. I think I made these about a year ago. It turned out great.

The last one is a Sweet Gum Seed Pod blank with a green colored resin on a Magnetic Graduate Rollerball pen. I have been using an opaque olive green color but decided to try a more translucent darker green on some blanks. This is one of those. I like it.

The first pen here is another Magnetic Graduate made from a piece of Sycamore that I stabilized with a dye in the stabilizing resin. I used a dark blue dye that did not work very well with the resin. I did learn that all dyes are not created equal and have purchased new dyes that are made specifically for use in stabilizing. These green blanks turned out nice even though they were not the color I wanted.

The last Mag Grad Rollerball is one for those folks down in Gainesville. The team color versions do well so I try to have them available as well.

Solid woods in this group of Magnetic Graduate Rollerball pens. I needed to replace the Thuya and Olivewood versions as they both sold last weekend. The third on is a highly Spalted piece of maple that I stabilized.

Time for a couple of Magnetic Graduate Rollerball hybrid pens. The first is Sweet Gum Pods in an olive green resin. This one came from a 6”x6” block mold that I used for the first time. I have used individual 3/4” molds in the past where the pods were lined up in rows. These were more randomly aligned when the book was sliced. I like the look.

The second in a piece of Maple with a considerable amount of stabilized bark cast with a a lighter blue resin. I never know what it will look like until they get turned. I was not disappointed with this one either.

A neighbor of mine did some of the remodeling work on the old Duval Hotel bar twenty five years ago and kept some of the wood. He gave me some a couple of weeks ago and I just got time to look at it yesterday. One piece was about 15”x15”x 3/4” thick. I needed to make some pen stands so I cut it up and sanded away the old finish and it turned out to be Mahogany! I was able to make 8 stands and have enough material to make 6 or seven nice pens from the rest. And that was all grime one piece.

I did make one Magnetic Graduate Rollerball and put it on one of stands.
Took it to him about an hour ago. Was pleased with it and made me take about a 6’ piece of the old bar’s rounded edge. After trimming i will probably have 50 mor pens from that. Mahogany pens anyone?

The top four stands allow for a single pen, business cards, and a team golf ball maker (FSU, UF, GA, Al, UCF, USF, etc). I will add whichever desires at the market. The next two are deer antler stands for a Bolt Action 30 Cal or 308 Bullet Cartridge pen. The last is for a single pen and golf ball marker.

I was in St. Augustine with three of my grandkids for the past several days. While there I got contacted by someone that bought a Honeybee Ballpoint pen last week and asked if I could make a Honeybee Fountain for next Saturday. I checked my supplies when I got back today and I did have the parts so I made this one with Osage Orange.

I sold my last Artemis Rollerball pen a couple of weeks ago and have been waiting for my new supply to arrive. I had a customer ask about them at the Market and said he wanted four when they came in. They finally arrived yesterday so I made five of them today. The customer will not be back in town until next week but I have them ready.

Shown here are Hickory, Cocobolo, Water Oak, Cedar, and Spalted Pecan.

I sold both the Steampump and Steampunk pens on Saturday and really need to have them available for the Market on Saturday.

It is the Chain of Parks Art Festival this weekend with 40-50 of national art and craft vendor displays. Our market is adjacent to it and we get the benefit of their attendees as well as our regular traffic. Our hours change for this event as well. 9:00 until 4:00 on Saturday. Chain of Parks will also be on Sunday, but not our market. I may try to get into their event next year so that I can be there Sunday as well.

The Steampunk and Steampump pens were both made with Thuya Burl. I had a small piece of the blank left so I used it for a Bolt Action 30 Cal pen. I liked the gold finish with this one.
