Haunting the Hunter by Hanna Harp

For a first time author Hanna chose to do something no other author has ever done. Making the reader the love interest. I loved the idea, it was the whole reason I bought the book. Ideas don't always pan out though.

I only continued reading for the plot, and now I'm invested in saving the sister. Where we were lacking in development with the MMC, we saw with the FMC and her "demon".

Some parts dragged on. Some felt rushed. But the connection between FMC and demon felt a lot more authentic than the insta love MMC had for the reader.

Listen… I came for the chaos and stayed for the commitment to the bit. 🍅🥒

This book knows exactly what it is and leans all the way in—short, unhinged, and unapologetically spicy. Is it realistic? Absolutely not. Is it hilarious, bold, and weirdly confident? 100%.

The writing is fast and playful, the premise is pure shock-value fun, and the spice is front and center with zero shame. It’s the kind of read you pick up when you want to laugh, blush, and question your life choices (in a good way).

Mean One delivers exactly what it promises: sharp edges, messy feelings, and a romance that leans hard into tension and emotional bite. The characters are flawed in a way that feels intentional rather than overdone, and the push-pull dynamic keeps the pages turning. While some moments could’ve used a bit more depth or breathing room, the chemistry and angst more than make up for it. A solid, addictive read for fans of mean-but-melting love interests and emotionally charged romance.

Morena had an intriguing premise and a darkly emotional tone that pulled me in at first. The atmosphere was heavy and the writing had moments of real beauty, especially in the more introspective scenes. A sweet, easy read, but it didn’t completely sweep me off my feet. The chemistry between the leads was there, but the emotional beats didn’t land as hard as I’d hoped. It’s cute, it’s romantic, but it lacked the spark that makes books unforgettable.

Still, if you’re in the mood for a light, feel-good romance with some heartfelt moments, Falling delivers just enough to keep you turning the pages.

So if Pennywise and Beetlejuice had a baby, and Jason Voorhees and Venom combined, and they came together.. That's how Haunt by AJ Merlin was born.

I hate that it's only 100 pages. But absolutely worth the ride for those that see the romance in slasher films.
