Professional teaching artist Denise Iacovone is bringing not one, not two, but three inspiring art workshops to Talkeetna this summer!

🎨 Workshop 1: Explore the art of contour line drawing through hands-on experimentation in a relaxed studio setting. You'll create multiple drawings as you learn to see your subject in a whole new way.

🎶 Workshop 2: What does music look like? Working alongside the Talkeetna Jazz Orchestra during rehearsal and performance, you'll use watercolors and colored pencils to interpret the sounds you hear and capture the feeling of live music on paper.

🖌️ Workshop 3: Inspired by the work of celebrated living artist Susan McGrath, you'll create your own still life painting with Denise guiding you every step of the way. No experience is necessary; all materials are provided, and you'll choose from one of two McGrath-inspired still lifes when you register so Denise can prepare. Feel free to bring your favorite snacks, and beverages will be available for purchase.

Whether you're a seasoned artist or just curious to try something new, these workshops are all about creativity, exploration, and having fun making art together.

Don't forget...Rocco is headed back to Talkeetna, and with him comes two weeks of jazz, creativity, and a whole lot of fun. Whether you're classically trained, play by ear, or haven't looked at sheet music in years, this workshop is all about listening, improvising, and making music together. You'll build confidence, pick up new skills, and leave with a few more tricks in your musical toolbox.

Maestro Rocco John Iacovone will lead workshop sessions June 18, 22, 24, 26, 29, and July 1 from 5:00–7:00 pm, culminating in a community performance on Saturday, July 2 at 7:00 pm.

Summer Stock was complete this evening with the musical theater campers’ final performance of Cow Town. Written and performed by our amazingly talented local kids (and one who came all the up from Moose Pass to join the fun!).
Huge thanks to Kaitlyn and Danielle for all their hard work with our kids this week. The show was just outstanding!

A heartfelt thank you to Denali Brewing Company for creating Denali Rescue Volunteers Saved My IPA in support of the incredible volunteers who help make rescue efforts on Denali possible. In a week marked by profound loss within the Denali climbing and rescue community, we're especially grateful for those who continue to answer the call in one of the world's most demanding environments.

Join us Friday, June 12, at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar for Mount Huntington Climbs, a special fundraising event benefiting Denali Rescue Volunteers. Enjoy stories of legendary Alaska ascents, live music from Doc Mock, great door prizes, and an evening dedicated to honoring and supporting those who help keep climbers safe in Denali's high places.

50 years ago, local resident Roger Robinson, along with four others, reached the summit of Mt Huntington, which sits near the southeastern base of Denali. They made the second ascent of the NW Ridge, better known as the French Ridge, named after the legendary climber Lionel Terray, who led a French team on the mountain's first ascent in 1964. Cindy Jones, a member of Robinson’s team and the first woman to summit the mountain, will give the presentation of their 1976 climb. The program will begin with a short historic film of the 1964 French climb. The evening will end with a slide presentation by local residents Brian McCullough and Lance Leslie on their alpine-style ascent of the French Ridge and epic descent of the East Ridge and North Face in 1981. This remarkable climb was the third ascent of the ridge and the first traverse of the mountain.

Denali rescue volunteers have been assisting the Park and climbing rangers for nearly 50 years. These volunteers donate their time, skills, and expertise to protect Denali’s mountaineering visitors and preserve its glaciated wilderness. Climbers and Denali National Park are indebted to them for their service.

Join us Friday & Saturday, July 10th & 11th, for the Green Light Circus' spectacular final performance!
Expect gravity-defying acts, daring stunts, and more surprises as our talented local kids tumble through the ages!
Tickets will only be available at the door! Doors open at 6:30 pm and the performance starts at 7 pm.
Seats are first-come, first-served. We will allow standing room, so get in line early if you want a seat!
As part of the Green Light Circus festivities, we will have the annual Fairway Carnival again on Saturday, July 11th outside the hangar from 12 to 4 pm. Join us for an afternoon of family fun! There will be face painting, balloon animals, carnival games, magic shows, and the return of the infamous dunk tank!
