For America’s 250th anniversary, Sphinx Virtuosi presents American Dialogues.

The program brings together newly commissioned works and reimagined classics, featuring music by Rachel McFarlane, Roberto Sierra, Damien Geter, Jessie Montgomery, Maurice Ravel, and Igor Stravinsky.

Together, these works explore America’s evolving story through questions of heritage, transformation, artistic freedom, and identity.

This week, we’re highlighting J'Nai Bridges, who will join Sphinx Virtuosi for this special performance.

Here are three fun facts about J’Nai:

1. She is a two time Grammy® Award-winning mezzo-soprano.

2. J’Nai has become one of today’s most sought-after mezzo-sopranos, performing on stages including the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Los Angeles Opera, Washington National Opera, and more.

3. Beyond opera, she has been recognized with major honors including the Sphinx Medal of Excellence and the Richard Tucker Career Grant. She has also emerged as a leading voice in classical music’s ongoing conversations around inclusion and racial justice in the performing arts.

Three fun facts about Sphinx Virtuosi ahead of their October 24 performance!

1. Sphinx Virtuosi is a self-conducted chamber orchestra, meaning the musicians lead the ensemble themselves.

2. The ensemble is made up of 18 string players, each sought-after soloists, chamber musicians, and faculty members at top institutions, including the New York Philharmonic, Cleveland Orchestra, and the Philadelphia, Detroit, Atlanta, Seattle, and Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestras.

3. They’ve shared the stage with legendary artists including Terence Blanchard, Denyce Graves, and Sweet Honey in the Rock, as well as cultural icons like Beyoncé and Jay-Z. Their impressive résumé also includes high-profile appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and the Grammy Awards broadcast.
