Bluebird Gallery announces fall class schedules, Tahlequonia
Bluebird Gallery, Studio and Event Space will feature several talented teachers for upcoming classes and workshops when it opens September 19 with a stained glass bluebird workshop. Pre-registration guarantees a place in a class or workshop.
The first big event will be on Friday, October 2, a reception for Tahlequonia Art, Photography and 3D Show and Competition, at 6 p.m.
at 108 South Muskogee Avenue, suite 4. Art drop for the show and competition is Sat. Sept.19 - Sat. Sept. 26 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Entry fee is $25 for two pieces of art in the same category, and an artist enter more than one category or the same category twice.
“We are excited to show the community our new, beautiful gallery and host Tahlequonia Fine Art, Photography and 3D Show and Competition as our grand opening,” said ACT President Renee Fite. “We look forward to meeting new artists, seeing our regulars’ new art in this show and welcoming visitors to the gallery and Tahlequonia.”
Weekly classes begin on Tuesday, Sept. 22.
ACT board member Peggy Hague will teach oil painting on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. starting September 22. The class, for beginners or intermediates, will paint a colorful buffalo and for those who not draw well, an outline of the buffalo to trace will be available. Cost is $25 per class.
ACT Founding Board Member Dr. Carl Farinelli, well-known musician and retired educator from Northeastern State University, will offer music classes for adults and youth accompanied by a parent or grandparent on Tuesday’s at 3:30 p.m. This weekly music group provides an opportunity for aspiring musicians of all levels to come together in a service learning environment. Want to sing and/or play guitar, fiddle, harmonica, dulcimer, mandolin, bass, ukulele, slide guitar, or drums, come join. Learn by reading music, tablature, by ear or watching others play. Donations accepted for this class.
ACT Board Member and Poet Erynn Crittenden will offer Cut-out Poetry workshops on Thursdays at 2 p.m. and Friday at 10 a.m. She’ll provide old magazines, glue sticks, scissors, and poster boards. Come cut out words and letters, and glue them onto a poster board to take home. One board per person. It's poetry plus art, fun for all ages and good for a summertime activity. Donations accepted for this activity.
ACT Founding Board Member Renee Fite will offer watercolor classes on Saturday mornings at 10:30 a.m. that don’t have a workshop scheduled. Come enjoy painting a simple piece that can be finished in two hours or less. Cost is $25 for supplies and class.
Workshops begin Saturday, Sept. 19 at 1 p.m. with Mona Burns. This make and take beginner stained-glass workshop will create a small bluebird, and Burns will provide pre cut pieces ready to assemble, and attendees will learn to foil and solder. Cost is $40.
ACT Member and Fiber artist Kathy Tibbits will offer a tie dye workshop on October 17 at 10 a.m. for $50 and a make and take tie dye workshop at 2 for $20. Pre-order shirts at 918 797-5016. Attendees can bring one additional cotton item to tie dye.
Julie Gowing Hayes, NW Arkansas artist and president of Heart of America Artist Association; member of the National Oil and Acrylic Painter Society; member Oil Painters of America, Plein Air Painters of the Ozarks, and Signature Emeritus member, board advisor and Woolaroc Invitational Co-Chair of Women Artists of the West, will teach a unique watercolor workshop October 24 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Breaking the Rules: A Fresh Approach to Watercolor. Discover a fresh approach to watercolor painting by working on a gesso-coated surface. This nontraditional method allows you to layer and manipulate watercolor in surprising ways.
November will bring the first book-signing. On Saturday, November 7 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Dr. David Jennings, Linda Trout and Merle and Karen Davenport will be at the Bluebird with books to sign, just in time for holiday shopping and gift giving.
