I've been waiting awhile to post about this because I wanted to make sure it was a design that made the client happy, but I'm excited to work on this commission from a couple for their wedding.

I know nowadays it's been hard on everyone to plan for anything, but it makes me happy to hear stories of love despite the madness that's going on. Unfortunately, with the interruption of COVID putting many things at a pause, planning a special day can at least serve as a little hope for something good in the future.

Like the two trees coming together, may this event just be another obstacle they face that helps make them stronger together.

With the lockdown happening here in Washington its given me a lot of time to work on things I've been wanting to do for awhile. Just like most watercolor, when exposed to heat and light the color can fade. This same concept especially applies to plant pigments and can even cause the painting to brown out over time.

I've been trying to develop a sealant made with rosin and wax to help reduce the degradation of the color. This is my first experiment with using the mix and I'm really enjoying the results. The color not only seems to pop more, but it also creates a level of depth.

S/o to Burbs and the Bees in Maple Valley, WA for the beeswax and to Creekwood Naturals for the rosin. Please be sure to support your local artists and businesses in these tough times. If you would like to purchase this piece or would like a commission done feel free to PM me.

Since with Sakura Con cancelling among 4 other shows I felt compelled to at least do a live stream for you all.

As you can tell, I dont like to post too often about Teascape on social media because to me, I like to make the experience as sacred and intimate as sharing the tea I use. I love talking about different teas and with people, talking and educating people about the different forms of Asian art that influence my own, the science of color, the beauty of bonsai, the beauty of plants in general... Through Teascape it allows me to stay connected to my love for science and Asian culture while doing something creatively which makes it a perfect blend for conversation (pun slightly intended).

But alas, I will make due. I look forward to adapting to the change for this next month and hoping that things do get better. In the mean time, join me for a cup of tea and maybe a project of your own and spend some time together!

Big thank you to my friend Bryan for the commission and for supporting me and my work

As for my art, keeping up with social media can be difficult but it's been nice having consistent shows to go to and being able to elevate my craft. I've been taking the time to study different styles of penjing and bonsai, educating myself more on the science of plants and color and working on a preservative to make sure my pigments last. If you would like to catch me at my next show, I will be in Everett at the Home and Garden Show March 13th to the 14th with Asia Pacific Gardening. Hope to see you there!

Omg! This is so sad to me :( I dont understand why and how this could happen. Trees in general carry so much history with them and not to mention they are always so damn heavy! Today we are grieving the loss of a tree that was stolen at The Pacific Bonsai Museum that had been cared for for the past 70 years.

Unfortunately stealing trees isnt unheard of and has actually happened at the garden that I used to work at as well but it doesn't make it any less upsetting. When the trees are stolen their survival rate decreases immensely and if they are found, they are often disheveled when training these trees can take decades. But moments like this are why I value bonsai so much. It's such a delicate art form that can just change or in this case, disappear in an instant.

Coincidentally enough after art shows I always get so motivated and I was even going down memory lane today looking at old pictures I took when I visited the museum last. I only wish the best for them and I hope that they can find the culprit :(

If you're in Seattle feel free to come by the Kinokuniya Artist Alley and pick up a gift for your Valentine or to commemorate the holiday! I'll be doing some special deals as well and it is a great opportunity to support your local artists, businesses, entertainers and have fun while staying out of the Washington rain!
