Do you know a middle schooler who could use an hour a week that’s just for them?

Meet a few of ours!

This is what it looks like when dance becomes a creative outlet, a place to be silly, and a crew of friends outside of school. There’s room in the lineup for your middle schooler, too. Come join them 💃🏻

Four classes this season, so dancers can try different styles and find the one that feels like them:

🪩 Hip Hop: Mondays, 4:00pm
🩰 Ballet: Mondays, 5:00pm
🎶 Jazz: Thursdays, 5:00pm
👟 Tap: Thursdays, 6:00pm

Years of training or never taken a class? Both belong here. Dancers can join any class at any point in the season.

This is a combo from Adult Advanced Beginner Tap with Melanie. Tap dancers are percussionists, so every sound you hear is the dancers making it!

Meet Melanie ✨

Melanie’s first teaching gig was as an assistant at her own dance studio, followed by coaching rec classes at the gymnastics center where she competed. She was a young teen herself, and watching her students gain confidence felt so good that she never looked back.

Tap is her biggest dance love. Her teachers focused on rhythm tap and taught her to be the music, since tap dancers are percussionists. She grew up on Long Island, less than an hour from NYC, and went on to perform as Velma in Chicago and in A Chorus Line here in Washington.

What she wants every student to know: “All humans are dancers.” And if you’re looking for an easy way to bring more joy into your life, her advice is to “Take a chance on yourself! You deserve that joy!”

Her philosophy on welcoming every body into the studio: “I am not your teacher, I am your cheerleader who believes in your ability to ‘get it,’ even when you might not believe it yourself.”

And beyond the steps? She hopes students take away resilience, the belief in yourself that turns small improvements into great achievements.

🗣️ Classroom quirk: She’s silly no matter the age of her students, because if you’re laughing, you’re more likely to remember it and want to keep coming back.

🐶 Cats, dogs, or zero time for pets: She grew up with cats, now she has a dog, and her backyard is basically a forest full of birds and wildlife. Bring her all the animals.

Meet Ms. Gabbie 👋🏻

Gabbie started teaching at 14, helping out at her home studio. When Ms. Tiffany invited her to join PNWDF, she jumped at the chance to help the studio grow and bring more dancers in!

She’s torn between ballet and tap, and honestly, who could blame her! She loves what she can create with her feet in tap, but she’s drawn to the structure of ballet too.

Her take on dance: “All you have to do is move! You don’t need to take multiple classes or be perfect. It is all about moving your body and enjoying the music.”

Her philosophy on accessibility is simple, let people try. No need to box dancers into one style or type; the goal is to let people explore and grow their art.

And beyond the steps? She hopes students learn that it’s not that serious. Class is about having a good time, enjoying the movement, and enjoying each other... presence over perfection, ALWAYS!
