It is with great excitement and pride that we are able to announce our patent was approved for the rEvolution drum design. It has been a long, tiresome four years going through this process, it has taken a lot from both of us and almost killed me a few times along the way, but it is finally here.

I would like to thank everyone who helped us get to this huge milestone—those folks believed in us even when we didn’t believe in ourselves.

This is the end of an era for 101 Percussion and the beginning of a new age of drum design. We still have a long journey to get our product market ready and get funding for production (we both can’t wait to quit our jobs and start exclusively working for ourselves).

Finally bit the bullet and decided to replace my wheel bearing today regardless of what it took. Had to use my trusty breaker bar (a pearl style tom arm).

I initially used it for car repairs because I no longer had my normal aluminum pipe. But it’s been a constant reminder of how much music and designing instruments have influenced my life.

Ingenuity and problem-solving through design are at the core of 101 Percussion. This little set back took a bit of a punch at my financial goal to complete my patent. But I’m still confident about getting there, sure could use your help though...

What seems like ages ago, I mocked up the very first proof of concept for the rEvolution drum design. I used what parts I had available including some sheet metal that was laying around which I used for the suspension brackets.

Later on, most of those parts were transformed into the current prototype, but the sheet metal brackets got thrown into a box somewhere and eventually moved from one side of the US to the other. While Sara Macko and I were sorting through and rearranging the 101 Percussion Lab, we managed to find them at the bottom of that long-forgotten box.

Today, after spending months slowly modifying my $50 Lyon strat, I decided to use that very magical and ancient bracket to install a magnetic field reflectivity mod (I hot glued it to the back of a pickup magnet).

It’s nice to know that inside the guts and soul of my guitar there will always be a piece of me. A piece of my efforts. And a tangible piece of my personal history.

The rEvolution drums are just the beginning. Sooner than we all realize, you will be able to purchase 101 Percussion recovered boutique guitars, passive effects, or maybe even synths.

It’s funny to think how much I’ve evolved as a songwriter, musician, and musical instrument maker over the years. I often get discouraged and have friends and loved ones tell me “you’re smart, you’ll figure it out”

You’re damn straight I will.
