Wishupon Productions is selling its sound effects CD's (CD's? How quaint!) The vast majority is Sound Ideas and BBC, with a sports disc from Hollywood Edge. The Lucasfilm, 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros, Hanna-Barbera, Turner, and Zaentz discs are in there, too. Know some fresh-faced studio starting in post-production? Send them here: http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/emd/5070168794.html.

The sound-design of "Bill Nye the Science Guy" was informed (if such a term can be used) by the spontaneous, anarchic, "live" work of the crew of "The J.P. Patches Show." This was "seat-of-your-pants" fly-in work that surprised, delighted, and, after a few hours of watching, comforted with unexpected joys, desperate timing, and the comedy DNA of non-sequitir and inappropriateness. That sound was inspired by the soul of its lead performer, Chris Wedes, who, like Ernie Kovacs and Soupy Sales, excelled at improv and real-time ingenuity, no doubt egged on by the raucous crew of KIRO-TV floor support and directors, a one-man show buttressed by co-conspirators who had little use for safety. Chris died this past weekend, and although one wishes one could thank him—again—for his inspiration and work, one also realizes there isn't enough time in the world to do it justice. He was that good, and he is that memorable.

Saw this. Had to click on it. It's garbage. No, you don't hear lightning, but you do hear thunder, which is the sound resulting from lightning, and what the movies get wrong is not putting in the delay between distant lightning and thunder, as the speed movies communicate don't allow for less than the image+ sound equation. Imagine seeing a lightning strike in a horror movie and NOT hearing thunder with it.

Presenting 10 sounds effects that frankly, only exist in the movies.

This is one of my favorites. Absolute perfection in the playing and timing by Bob Nelson and Bill Stainton. I always liked this concept, originated on "Almost Live."

Uncle Fran's Playhouse video segment from Bill Nye the Science Guy - Food Web episode.

Oh, more comedy. Another example of the how Pat Cashman could make anything funny-even accidents.

This clip has an appearance by Pat Cashman and voice-work by Erren Gottlieb. Edited by Michael Gross. Sound-wise, the swooshes on the volleyball-orbiting needed to be accurate as far as speed and weight and placement--all elements you budding sound-designers need to consider when choosing your swoosh-by's. Weight! Mass! Speed!

You might feel like you're sitting still, but you're wonderingmoving around a star. Our Earth is a planet, held in an orbit by the pull of a rope... no, wait. It's the pull of gravity. Take this one for a spin.
