Spent the weekend drawing and collaging in preparation for a show. This wrestler study piece, 9” x 12” combines pencil and charcoal drawing on discarded book paper. I love working with the figure and its applicability to all things. The figure was placed first then the charcoal strokes applied.

Creating a painting is a rocky experience at times. I often liken it to being in a rocky relationship. I look at any of my paintings over the course of several days, or I put them in time out because they don’t speak to me. I deliberately snub them.

I put the brush down and the next day it appears to be something else altogether. I don’t think I’ll entirely understand the process. Maybe that’s a good thing.

All that said, I pay homage to balancing tension and movement. Drawing and brushwork.
