No Kings rally at the Capitol! We took a long time to discern whether we wanted to be parents, and bringing a baby into the world often feels scary given the current abundance of hate and some much uncertainty in their future. But it also feels like an act of hope and resistance. We hope to continue surrounding them in communities like this that teach them to care for their neighbor and work for goodness.

Babymoon photo dump part 2!

A night at a Buddhist temple in the mountains of Koyasan (thank you so much for the amazing rec!!), a couple foodie days in Osaka, a day trip to Tokoname - a CAT-themed POTTERY village (purrrfect for us!!), and some final relaxation in Hakone with some private onsen time and views of Fuji and plum blossoms.

There's a lot of trees on the property at Lummi. One of which is a pretty large maple tree that has a rope swing that I swung on most summers as a kid since as far back as I can remember. The tree is nearing the end of its life, and along with that, pieces have needed to be removed. While we were there at the end of last year, I went through the pile of some of the split wood from this tree and grabbed as many pieces I could fit in the car that looked to be hiding figure inside. These are the first 3 cooking spoons from that bundle of wood, with many more to come. It is an emotional experience to take a piece of wood from a tree that gave so much joy to me as a child, and turn it into something beautiful that I can have in my home to make meals with for years to come.

Cleaning up Christmas always makes Kirsti a little sad but packing ornaments and realizing this is our 6th year of making an annual ornament and going into 7th year of making pottery together is a great source of happiness :)
