IPA Independent Potters Association

IPA Independent Potters Association We are a community-minded group of potters and ceramic artists! For the price of admission, guests will receive food, drinks and live music!

Our flagship event is Cups for a Cause, when we hold an event to raise money for a local concern. In September 2023, 100% of proceeds will go to InterFaith Works of Central New York (interfaithworkscny.org). For an additional donation, they may choose a set of cups or mugs as our gift of appreciation! Since our inception in 2012, we have raised a sum total of over $80,000 for a variety of charities.

Look out for Christine Mclaughlin at Clay for a Cause! She has been interested in artistic expression from an early age and currently finds herself drawn to the combination of ceramic surface design and whimsical, colorful expression. The freedom of exploring a wide range of surface drawing, painting, and addition of textural changes through slip trailing, water etching and sgraffito, provides her with an endless assortment of possibilities and new and ever evolving and challenging planes.

You never know what fun and interesting ceramics are going to show up September 18th from 5pm-8pm at Benjamin’s on Franklin.

Lowell Hutcheson will be one of our newest members donating work this year at Clay for a Cause! She is a ceramic artist, educator and arts administrator whose work reflects a deep connection to nature, commitment to sustainability, and the quiet power of handmade objects. Through the use of slip and texture, she explores the intersection of tradition and experimentation, drawing on natural materials and techniques to create work that feels contemporary and timeless. Every aspect of her practice—from the raw materials she uses to the way she lives—is shaped by a conscious effort to reduce her carbon footprint and reconnect with the natural world.

Here's another IPA member you need to know! Tom Krahe was hooked on pottery in college and has never stopped creating in clay. He's especially known by the IPA team as the most generous bowl thrower, trimmer, and decorator. He makes loads of bowls that are donated to an Empty Bowls fundraiser for The Interreligious Food Consortium. You can snag some of his lovely pottery at Clay for a Cause September 18th where he helps out another high cause. All pottery donated by Tom and IPA artists benefits 13Thirty Cancer Connect.

This month continue the celebration of IPA members! Time flies, so we want you to have a sneak peek of the artists and their work that will be featured at our charity event "Clay for a Cause." 100% of the proceeds support 13Thirty Cancer Connect. Mark your calendar for September 18th so you don't miss the fun.

Having spent most of her adult life as a painter and a high school Art Teacher Ellen Haffar so happy to work with her daughter Dia as a full time potter. Working together as Smokepail Studios, you can find them in local shops and on the road at Art markets and festivals throughout the northeast.

This month we're going to start the celebration of IPA members! Dia Haffar is a full time potter, working with her mom in their shared studio in Lafayette NY. Function and fun is important to her work and each piece is influenced by a love of nature. Before pottering Dia traveled widely as a peace corps volunteer and English teacher. You can't help but have a smile as you use her whimsical pieces.
