From the Artist:
My artistic practice sits at the intersection of fashion, beauty, and street art—a trajectory shaped by my background as a hair artist since 1984 and my move to NYC in 1992. While my broader body of work includes physical mixed media pieces on canvas, wood, and mobile walls—combining fashion model portraits, street art photography, spray paint, and reclaimed NYC street paper—my contribution to (not) All Encompassed focuses on my Decomposition photo series.
Started in 2021 as daily city walks deepened during the pandemic shutdown, the Decomposition series isolates micro-sections of deteriorating Manhattan street walls. To me, the streets are constantly talking, capturing the Zeitgeist through chaotic layers of paste-ups, stickers, graffiti, and peeling paint. Weathering continuously hides and reveals forgotten messages, creating ever-shifting abstract compositions. The true image often emerges only during post-capture digital inspection, where isolated textures and severed words unlock entirely new meanings. When printed, these layered images carry a vivid dimensional depth—looking as though paper could still be torn away and paint is on the verge of peeling—rescuing fleeting moments from the street and preserving their dark, quiet beauty.

About the Artist:
Printmaking became a focus in Karin Bruckner’s work in 2006. She found the medium a congenial way of creating art given her professional background in architecture. Its unique combination of creative flow and process requires a structured, sequenced way of thinking in
layers, shapes and colors not unlike architectural plans. Printmaking has allowed the Artist to gradually make her way from the strictures of architecture to a looser form of creative expression, while engaging all of her artistic and design skills. Over the years, constant experimentation has propelled Bruckner’s unique monotypes from a graphic into a more painterly direction, thoroughly embedded and complexly layered visual landscapes of considerable depth. Bruckner’s work is process driven, responding to the materials and
techniques at hand, resulting in a widely varied yet distinctive portfolio.
It led Bruckner to a consummate Work on Paper practice that encompasses repurposing and engages paper spatially - from small intimate works to larger scale explorations.
At the core of the dialogue between the artist and the work is an attempt to push media to their limits, straddling the lines between printmaking, drawing, painting, collage, installation and sculpture in an authentically interdisciplinary practice. Bruckner credits Printmaking with its elements of surprise and the inevitabilities of “happy accidents” with immensely expanding her artistic sensibilities. The work evolves and resides in the space created by Pull, Push and Beyond.

About the Artist:
Deborah Walsh is an artist and educator working in Central New York. A Syracuse
university graduate Walsh studied painting (BFA) and art education (MS), and retired
after teaching art where she was both inspired by and a guiding force for thousands of
creative students. She was the recipient of many grants including NYS Individual Artist
grants, Liverpool Professional Development grants, and a Japan Fulbright Memorial
Fund Teacher fellowship. She served as an Artist in Residence and led the
creation of ceramic murals at several schools where her leadership brought to life
vibrant ceramic murals. Currently she is a member the Teaching Artist Cohort at the
Everson Museum and will begin an Artist in Residency at the Liverpool Library in the
spring Her own art draws inspiration from her meticulous observation of the world
around her. Painting in a photorealistic style Walsh is concerned with capturing the way
light falls on reflective objects, which she distorts, and manipulates, pushing the
boundaries of realism to create a more meaningful piece.

About the Artist:
Elegant and harmonious, fiber artist Lauren Bristol’s sculptural baskets are made using the labor-intensive technique of coiling. Tightly wrapping Egyptian cotton around a fiber core, Bristol lets her intuition guide her through the formation of her vessels, a rhythmic and meditative process essential in the balance of her creative process. She draws on the ideas of primal chaos, the nurturing/nourishing deep, and the original container of life force potential for inspiration. Spiritually potent objects, her baskets reference the Mother, Her Body, and Her Womb through shape, color, and the use of positive/negative space. Each piece celebrates aspects of the cyclic and spiraling nature of life energy through the subtle congruence of myth, etymology and physics.

Lauren Bristol lives and works in Syracuse, NY. She has been a practicing fiber artist since 1979. Her interest in fiber is wrapped up in her interest in the history of the work of women, extending back 30,000 years.

About the Artist:
Todd Behrendt works in darkroom photography and uses a camera obscura as an appropriation apparatus for cliché verre negative creation. The large-scale negatives are then contact printed on silver gelatin paper as an indexical record of ephemeral phenomenon. The diptych format allows the images to interact with one another in an expanded field.

About the Artist:
Sherry Spann Allen’s affinity with Abstract Expressionism challenges her affinity with Formalism. The intuitive spontaneity of Abstract Expressionism and the formal Principles of Design work together in her work.
​Her abstract paintings are inspired by looking very closely at shapes/forms spaces and surface textures everywhere. Forms from nature often inspire her, but not exclusively. For instance, she’ll study rock cliff formations, the flow of water, the playful shape of a billowing sheet on a laundry line, or a squashed can found on the curb. She looks for the pure, elegant, shapes/forms/space in her world and the energy that surrounds them.
​She constructs the three dimensional pieces like a collage. She’ll either draw out a composition ahead of building with the wood or she’ll simply cut out shapes that appeal to her and then throw them nearby to improvise and create a layered composition spontaneously. She uses predominantly 1/4” plywood.
This is where the sculptural aspects of working with space begins. Once the layered structural wood construction is complete she’ll experiment with color using acrylic paint, polymer mediums and lastly the drawn line with various drawing mediums.
