Sweet Briar Theatre The Theatre Program at Sweet Briar College The department produces a broad range of material from the classics to musicals to modern experimental theatre.

Sweet Briar's program is committed to deepening a student’s knowledge and appreciation of the theatre by studying its past, learning the theoretical background of its various parts, including acting, directing, design, play writing and technical theatre, and regular participation in theatrical productions. Students have the opportunity to participate in all phases of production work as well as to

specialize in either acting/directing or design/technical theatre. Students work with the faculty as well as with guest artists each year.

THE TEMPEST will run at Sweet Briar College from October 26-29, 2023! This innovative production of Shakespeare's classic meditation on magic and the creative power of the artist incorporates live video feeds and manipulated visuals inspired by the large canvases of Pop Art, along with original music inspired by the art rock of the Warhol-adjacent Velvet Underground to consider the spells cast by the repetition of images and the possibilities and dangers of contemporary technological magic.
