The Karrh Center

The Karrh Center The Barbara & Tobe Karrh Community Arts Center is also home to the offices of the Emanuel Arts Council. The Historic Dixie Theatre was built in 1934 by W.M.

It will feature first-run movies, live performances, arts and culture education, exhibitions, and more. Karrh and was a social hub for Swainsboro and Emanuel County. After closing in the late 1960s, due largely to the increasing popularity of television, the space was used for retail for the next three decades. In 2014, Karrh's grandsons donated the theatre to the City of Swainsboro for renovation

as the Barbara & Tobe Karrh Community Arts Center. Plans for the arts center include a fully renovated theatre, which will feature first-run movies and live performances, a home for the Emanuel Arts Council, an art gallery, a community meeting room, educational space, and other additions to promote the creative economy in Emanuel County. The Emanuel Coalition for Cultural and Economic Development, a non-profit organization composed of citizens from throughout Emanuel County, leads the project.
