A Show This Big Needs a Community: Velveteen Rabbit Auditions Sept. 13
Sunriver Stars Community Theater has big plans for its November production of “The Story of the Velveteen Rabbit”. There’s just one thing missing:
YOU.
The community theater is putting out an enthusiastic call for actors, singers and community members to attend its next audition on Sunday, September 13 at 6 p.m.
This production was planned to be something special: a large, lively cast bringing the beloved children’s story to life through acting, music and a little theatrical magic. But a show of this size needs a community behind it, and so far, not enough people have stepped through the audition doors.
That means there are still plenty of opportunities to be part of it.
Most roles are open to performers ages 8 and older, and this is far from a children-only production. Multiple adult roles still need to be filled, making this a great opportunity for parents, grandparents, longtime performers and adults who have always wondered what it might be like to step onto a stage.
Because The Story of the Velveteen Rabbit is a musical, singing is an important part of the production. You don’t need to arrive sounding like a Broadway star, but performers should be comfortable singing and willing to learn, rehearse and become part of an ensemble.
Just as important is the ability to commit to the rehearsal process and the November performances. Community theater is built by people showing up for one another, and every person in the cast becomes an important piece of the production.

Love to sing but aren’t sure whether theater is for you? Come anyway.
Sometimes the person a director needs most is the person who almost talked themselves out of walking through the door.
Director Megan Steffens envisioned this production as a nostalgic experience for adults while introducing younger audiences to the wonder of a classic children’s story. The Velveteen Rabbit’s journey from an ordinary stuffed toy to becoming “real” is ultimately a story about love, belonging and transformation, and bringing that story to life will take performers of different ages and personalities.
Now Sunriver Stars needs the community to help make it happen.
Auditions will be held Sunday, September 13 at 6 p.m. in Room 208 at Village Properties, 56835 Venture Lane. The production will be presented November 5, 6 and 7 at Benham Hall at SHARC.
If you have ever thought about trying community theater, returning to the stage or simply doing something completely different this fall, this may be your invitation.
A stage is waiting. A story is ready to be told. It just needs its cast.
