💧🎨 This is my newest painting, called “Her Tears Are Holy Water”: a visual prayer honoring the sacred rites of grief, the generative & healing power of the feminine, the love of our ancestors & allies in the spirit world, and our reciprocity with the living Earth.

I finished this piece almost two months ago and for some reason have been putting off sharing it online. It has felt vulnerable, like a self-portrait of an intimate part of my soul. But I want the medicine of the image to reach those who may need it, so I am overcoming that shyness today. I know it has been a very medicinal image for me to sit with and feel into, as I showed up over many months for the work of transcribing it from the imaginal realm into form. I pray it helps others the way it has helped me.

I’m attending a community grief ritual here in Western Mass tomorrow, at Earthdance, being held by some of my dearest friends— , , . So today felt like the right moment to share this grief medicine. If this speaks to you and you’re local, I’d love to see you there.

I made prints of two different versions of this painting. The original vision that came to me included “the dark times” at the top: war, ecological destruction, deforestation, drilling & mining, fossil fuel burning, factory farming, space colonization, wildfires, storms & flooding, and so on…

But I also created an abridged version, with just the grieving & healing imagery, to allow the meaning to be more timeless, less specific, and for folks who may not want to take in the darker imagery more than once.

I’m so curious, which version resonates with you the most?

Prints of both versions are available in my online shop.

This was hand-painted with naturally occurring plant and mineral based pigments, traditional watercolors & gouache on cotton paper, in my home studio in Leverett, MA, on Pocumtuc land.

A behind-the-scenes look at my new painting, about the sacred work of grief💧🎨 This is my first time showing a work-in-progress on here—but it’s been so sweet to watch this corner of my drawing come to life with color, I wanted to share.
💧
To me, this painting is about the sacredness of grief, the healing power of the feminine, and how we are held in love by the spirits of our ancestors and the beings of the land. It’s an illustration of how, by letting the waters of grief flow, we complete the cycle of love and loss, and nourish the arising of new life and new ways of being.
💧
Grief is love, and all of us who dearly love the world have much to grieve these days. Alongside the personal grief that is an unavoidable part of being human, there is an ocean of collective grief—perhaps greater at this moment than ever before on Earth. This painting is a prayer, that when we show up for the sacred work of grieving, we are never alone, but held in tender reverence and protection by allies seen and unseen.
💧
In my mind I’ve been calling this piece, “Your Tears Are Holy Water,” and sometimes “Tending the Waters” (after the grief ritual tending training offered by ), and sometimes “Your Tears Are Healers, So Let Them Run Like Rivers,” after the song lyrics by . What would you call it?
💧
Thank you for being here with me 🙏 I hope this piece feels as healing for you to receive as it does for me to create 🤍

💧🤍 I feel like this is the most intimate & personal piece of art I’ve shared on here so far! It feels good to be moving in that direction—and it feels vulnerable too.

This painting was inspired by work I’ve been doing over the past few years (in therapy, in ceremony, and in meditation) of healing my own inner child. The mantras in the outside ring are things I’ve found it helpful to say to comfort my inner little one, when she feels unsafe or unloved.

There were so many loving affirmations that I wanted to include, but didn’t have room for! The second slide contains all the phrases I would’ve included in this piece if I’d had infinite space.

I’d be so curious to know which phrases resonate with you the most 🤍💧 or if there is a phrase not listed here that you’ve found helpful! please feel free to share in the comments 🤗 I’m loving you all. thank you for being here with me 🌱

prints and stickers of this painting are available 🌸 you can find them and more of my art in my online shop, link in my bio~

Funny story: I actually didn’t intend for this to be a self portrait, but the woman in the center did turn out looking sort of like me. I originally wanted her to be as generic as possible, so other people could see themselves in her—but it’s wild how art has its own agenda sometimes, and before I knew what I was doing, I’d painted her hair and skin the colors of my own. Then, when I realized I wanted to adorn her with something blue to bring out the tears on her cheeks, it just made sense to give her a blue teardrop necklace… which happens to be very similar to the necklace that I wear and have worn every day for the past 8 years. It wasn’t part of my original vision for this piece, and I even resisted painting it because I didn’t want her to look too much like me— but eventually I gave in, because it just felt like what the image was calling for. I hope others can still see and feel themselves in her.

I made some greeting cards for the winter holidays ~ featuring my painting of this hibernating mama bear with her three cubs 🐻❄️❤️ Inside the card is a zoom-in on the hidden gnome home detail from the corner of the original painting 🌲 🍄 And can you guess which constellation that is in the night sky? 🌌

I remember loving Jan Brett books as a child (specifically this book called Trouble with Trolls — anyone else??) and I think this painting, and much of my art, is inspired by the way she’d hide little secrets & sub-plots in the details of her illustrations.

These cards, and full-size prints of this painting, are available in my s h o p 🤍 l i n k i n b i o

Cycle Tracking Charts 🌜🩸🌛 Do you track your cycle?

Thank you for the love on my last post—it gives me hope for the world to know people are excited about the menstrual cycle 🥲 🌸

I made these cycle tracking charts to go along with the Wheel of the Womb infogrpahic I shared last week. The first step to practicing cycle syncing and fertility awareness is to track your cycle! Simply keeping track of how many days it has been since you last started bleeding (and noting the signs your body is giving you on each day) is the most basic step toward cultivating a deeper awareness of your hormonal & fertility cycles as a menstruating woman / person.

You could track your cycle digitally, but I know many of us (myself included) do not need another reason in our daily lives to enter into the hypnotic portal of the screen. So I made these charts for those of us who would prefer to track our cycles by hand, on paper, surrounded by all these images I felt inspired to doodle in the margins ✨ 👁️

For anyone new to cycle tracking: Day 1 is the first day of your bleed, and the menstrual phase lasts as long as you bleed. The follicular phase begins when bleeding ends, and lasts until ovulation. The ovulatory phase is the week or so around ovulation. Most of us ovulate around the midpoint of our cycle, but to really hone in on your exact ovulation day, you can track signs like cervical mucus and basal body temperature (I encourage you to research these more deeply if you’re interested!). The luteal phase is the rest of your cycle after ovulation, until you bleed again and your cycle restarts 🌀

These charts (both simple, year-long versions, and in-depth, monthly versions) are available now in my e t s y s h o p - l i n k i n b i o 🌸

✨ This question is a translation of a Zen koan from 12th century China. I love this koan so much, I felt inspired to paint this illustration to accompany it.

In Zen Buddhism, a “koan” is a paradoxical story or unanswerable question intended to elicit an experience of “kensho,” meaning “perception of one’s true nature.”

The riddles posed by koans aren’t meant to be solved—rather, the questions themselves are designed to open a space of mystery which, when meditated upon, can reveal a truth beyond language or concept.

What does this koan stir in you?

I made prints & stickers of this image so if you’re interested in that, lynx in my bio :)

Seasons of the Womb Cycle 🌀🌸🌙🩸

This illustration is going to be the centerpiece of a much larger painting I’m working on, about the spiraling hormonal, biological, energetic, and spiritual landscape that those of us in cyclically bleeding bodies move through each moon: aka, the menstrual cycle! yay 🌈☺️🩸

I’ll be transferring this little painting onto a much larger piece of paper where it will anchor several concentric rings of imagery & information about cycle syncing, hormone balancing, moontime magic, and more.

There is a great wealth of knowledge available to us about phase-specific nutritional, mineral, and herbal support, phase-specific exercise, work, energy management, and self-care, and the unique vulnerabilities & opportunities of each phase of our cycle.

My vision is to design what I hope will be an aesthetically pleasing infographic for women, girls, and menstruating humans of all genders to consult for easily accessible wisdom (both ancient / intuitive, and scientific research-based) about living in flow with our body’s natural cycles.

I’ve been tracking and observing my own cycle for many years, and over the past several months, I’ve read half a dozen books on this topic. It’s really fascinating to me! I love cycles of all kinds and I feel so grateful to get to live for several decades in a body that cycles so profoundly.

It makes me sad that our culture doesn’t celebrate this aspect of biological womanhood, and that we aren’t taught to be in touch with the mystery and power of it. Here’s to that changing.

If you’re interested in this project of mine, please stay tuned ~ and in the meantime, if you like this image and want to support what I’m doing, prints & stickers are available :) lynx in my bio

Finally, if you are an expert of any sort in the realm of the womb, and feel resonant with what I’m working on, please reach out! I’d love to bounce ideas off of you in exchange for a free print when they’re available. I sometimes find myself struggling to decide what is important enough to include in this project, or to choose between conflicting information from differing sources. Your input would be so welcome.

🌀One year ago this week, I left my full-time job and took a leap of faith into life as a self-employed artist. In the same week, I left the home I’d spent the past 5 years in, and moved 2 hours away to a farm in western Massachusetts.

It was such a huge transition for me, to change two of the central pillars of my life—my home and my job—at the same time. For a while, it was really scary and destabilizing. But today, I’m so glad I did it. And I’m really proud of myself for taking the leap. 🤍

Here’s me in my current home, holding the wheel of the year I painted while living on the farm—and me loving up on the farm animals ☺️🐑
