Your Voice Can Shape the Future of the Sumter Opera House

The Sumter Opera House is preparing for its grand reopening after closing for renovations in June 2025. While construction is nearing completion, we want to hear from the people who will enjoy the venue in the future, including those who may not be familiar with the Opera House today.

We are launching a short community survey and invite all Sumter residents to participate. The survey takes about five minutes to complete. Your feedback on entertainment, advertising, and how the Sumter Opera House communicates with the community will help shape its future and better serve our residents.

There is NEVER a dull moment at the theatre, even when it’s summer and our 2025-26 season has ended and the new season doesn’t begin for a few months.
We are getting the classroom ready for Summer Camp for students, our new costume mistress is busy rearranging the shop and planning out costumes for the first few shows, directors have been chosen for each of the mainstage shows, the a la carte productions are being planned and written, the stage is being cleared and cleaned and the Membership Drive is well under way! Rehearsals begin this weekend for “The Odd Couple | Female Version" – and we’re still looking for two men to play Spaniards who don’t speak much English, so call Traci Quinn at 803-847-1090 if you’re interested!

AND we’ve got to get the stage ready for Five Folk Acoustic Sessions led by Curt Ackerman! Yes, Curt is bringing a few of his friends for a special summertime event. These guys have been helping raise funds for SLT for a few years now, producing a show every January. And they’ll do it again in January 2027, but they decided once was not enough, so they’ve added a mid-year performance!

BECOME A MEMBER OF THE SLT FAMILY!
We are so excited about our new season! “The Odd Couple (Female Version)” (AUG), “Wiley and the Hairy Man” (OCT), “Ebenezer Scrooge’s Big Sumter Christmas Show” (DEC), “Intimate Apparel” (FEB), the musical “Bright Star!” (MAY).

Membership offers a better deal than buying tickets per show, and you can use our flex pass to divvy up your share of the tickets across the shows you most want to see.

You can become a member, choose to sponsor a show (with new levels available for that, as well, along with new perks of sponsorship!), or even be a Music Maestro by sponsoring part of the cost for musicians for our live musicals.

To make our community theatre as accessible as possible, we’re also introducing a Pay What You Can night – the second Thursday of each mainstage show – so if you know someone who’s not a member but would like to see a show and can’t match the ticket price (for any reason!), make sure to tell them about this new offering!

And, as always, we’ll have several a la carte offerings that are not included in your membership but provide a great night out and a little fundraising for our Youth Theatre program and other SLT programming.

If you’re interested in auditioning for any of those shows, make sure you’re following us on Facebook and Instagram. We’ll post cast requirements in June.

DON’T MISS OUT!
Summer Camp begins June 29! Give your kids the chance to gain confidence, develop skills and become better actors – AND better students!

Performing in a show, taking a class or even attending summer camp can help students and adults alike in so many ways. It promotes self-awareness, builds confidence, teaches participants to work collaboratively toward a common goal and to take responsibility for your own actions.

Sumter Little Theatre offers classes for all grade levels, and we also offer a summer camp to help your student decide if theatre can be a fun and rewarding outlet. This year’s camp will be held June 29-July 12 (no class July 3-5).
Ages 7-12 will meet from 9 a.m. to noon. Ages 13-18 will meet from 4-7 p.m.
Participate in acting, games, improvisation. Learn stage skills and, most importantly, have FUN! Students will get to participate in a showcase at the end of camp and see if theatre class would be something they’d enjoy.
Register online at SumterLittleTheatre.org. Scholarships are available through a grant from the Inspire Festival! Email [email protected] to apply for a scholarship!
