The Summit Playhouse

The Summit Playhouse Founded in 1918, the SPH is one of the oldest continuously operating community theatres in the US.

The Summit Playhouse began performances in 1918 making it the oldest, continuous community theater in New Jersey and one of the oldest in the United States. Originally created as a World War I relief organization we have since mounted more than 350 productions of comedies, dramas, and musicals along with a youth theater program.

The Summit Playhouse is seeking actors for By the Water, a heartfelt and compelling drama by Sharyn Rothstein.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, the Murphy family struggles to rebuild their Staten Island home and their lives. As old wounds resurface and loyalties are tested, each family member must decide what they’re willing to fight for—and what they’re willing to leave behind. Filled with humor, warmth, and deeply human characters, By the Water is a moving story about family, community, and the meaning of home.
