We’ve been working on something exciting!!

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our new monthly Sunday Sessions for Kids!

Starting on Sunday, April 19th as a part of , our new Sunday Sessions for Kids were designed with fun in mind. We love art and know how important it is for kids to have a creative outlet! So we’re teaming up with our artists and creatives in the community to bring local kiddos exciting new projects every month.

Each session will feature a new project, either based on the current artwork in the gallery or something fun to celebrate a new season or holiday that’s around the corner.

Every project requires experimentation, asking questions, and offers kids an opportunity to learn about real art practices inspired by real professional artists right here in Summit.

Parents are warmly asked to stay and join the fun. While the children create, feel free to explore the current exhibition. No experience necessary, just bring your curiosity and creative spirit. Drop-in style; no registration required.

Stay tuned for the announcement of our first Sunday Sessions project, TOMORROW!

OPENING THIS THURSDAY!!!

Please join us this at this Gallery Thursday evening, March 5th, for the opening reception of “Color Interaction VI” (6-8pm). “Color Interaction VI” features an incredible new series of work by Atlanta-based artist, Gretchen Wagner ( ). Head to the link in our bio to RSVP to the opening reception!

A bit about the show:
“Color Interaction VI” is the latest iteration in an ongoing investigation of how color responds when
it is asked to occupy three dimensional space.

Each work is printed with a cyan, magenta, or yellow gradient. Rather than mixing to produce a
stable hue, the inks remain transparent. As they overlap with the colored paper stock beneath, they
generate the illusion of additional colors and values that are not materially present. What appears
to be a new color is an optical event, produced through accumulation and perception.

The works are pleated and trimmed to create a directional shift in color. This subtle movement is
interrupted with each pleat, punctuating an otherwise continuous gradient into distinct color
swatches.

Anchored by a glass bead, each fold becomes structural as well as optical. The surface alternates
between peaks and valleys, absorbing and reflecting light. In these moments, each pleat functions
as small lightwell, where color compresses and briefly destabilizes.

“Color Interaction VI” continues to explore color as an evolving phenomenon rather than a static
material, asking how color changes when it is given depth.

Artist Spotlight: Erik Waterkotte,

Erik Waterkotte’s pieces (listed in order shown above), “Untitled Memento Mori II”, “Venerate”, and “Untitled Memento Mori IV” are on view at the gallery as part of our current group exhibition, “In the Shadow”, running through this Sunday, February 22nd.

A statement from the artist:
“The works in this exhibition employ handmade paper and print in allegory of mortality. In the Untitled Memento Mori series, images of Memorial Statues are screen printed in layers of pigmented paper pulp. In Venerate layers of handmade translucent flax paper appear like skin, overlapping laser cut images of human limbs with scorched images of tree limbs. Whether religious, mythological, philosophical, or theoretical, my artwork is inspired by the narratives human beings have created throughout history to explain existence and consciousness. Motivated by ecological grief, these works attempt to dismantle anthropocentric narratives by integrating the archetypal with the ecological in a memento mori of handmade paper, print, and mixed-media. In my recent work, found and foraged materials intersect on layers of recycled handmade paper, combining print, photography, and drawing with raw, often symbolic materials. I layer abstract and representational forms together to examine the intersection between inherited belief, the environment, and Phenomenology.”
