Have you seen it???? Check out this amazing review for TICK TICK BOOM from Zach Rettig! ⏰⏰💥
“As somebody else who is in, as one character puts it, their "very late 20s," and as somebody else who often feels more than a little lost about what to do once on the other side of 30, it should be no surprise that 5th Wall's new production of tick, tick...BOOM! spoke to something inside me. Though the show's roots are in a monologue that Jonathan Larson would perform early in his career, there's a universality and a generosity to it; Jon's artistic anxieties may be unique, but it isn't like his other fears have gone away. In fact, they've only gotten worse in the 30-plus years since: the cost of living, the challenge of advancing in the world, the push and pull between doing what makes you happy and doing what puts food on the table and keeps the lights on. I believe this is a show that in the wrong hands could feel dated in 2026, but under the sensitive direction of Julia Sorenson, the show's marvelous central trio - Justin Robinson, Elisha Black, and Teresa Elj - are luminous, empathetic, funny, and heartbreaking. They remind you that, even though we know things are going to turn out fine for Jon, the smallest setbacks can feel like life and death if you feel like you're running out of time - and conversely, when the moment of triumph finally arrives, it feels like salvation. It's difficult work, almost like a magic trick, to help a show this intimate and personal escape the confines of its creator's head and touch a greater audience, but the whole team at 5th Wall have done just that. It was a privilege to attend their opening night performance, and you would be remiss to miss out on your chance to see it yourself, whether at the Spoleto Festival or back at the Old Trolley Theatre. This is an evening of theater that is not to be missed.”
