Conventions
Joni-Dee teaches at conventions throughout the United States. Basket conventions Joni-Dee currently teaches at are the North Carolina Basket Convention, Guilder’s Weave in VA, Georgia Basket Convention, Upper SC Convention, Kentucky Convention, Tennessee Convention, Central PA Guild, and the Bedford PA Guild.

Woodland Retreats
The Woodland Retreats are private workshops co-taught with friend and owner of Magnolia Baskets, Denise Bendelewski. Workshops are held in Delaware, South Carolina, and North Carolina. Included in these private workshops are weekends of weaving Nantucket Baskets with fellow basket weavers. All retreats are held in wooded areas, creating a relaxing, fun experience full of weaving Nantucket Basket treasures. About Joni-Dee (owner/founder/president)
When Joni-Dee Ross wove her first basket in 1989, she discovered the perfect expression of her exuberant optimism and joy in life. Then living in Rocky Mount, she founded Handmade North Carolina Baskets in 1991. Now living in Summerfield, NC, she also co-owns The Woodland Nantucket Retreat Company with Denise Bendelewski of Magnolia Baskets. Joni-Dee earned a degree in Education from Clemson University. She has written and published over 55 basket patterns. In addition to teaching weekly basketry classes in her Summerfield studio, Joni-Dee regularly conducts classes at conventions, private guilds, and art centers throughout the United States. She and partner Denise will soon be publishing a book on Nantucket basket weaving techniques. Two things accompany Joni wherever she goes: healthy foods and weaving material. Joni-Dee’s hands are perpetually in motion, weaving while conversing over a cup of herbal tea at the kitchen table or listening to a television program in a hotel room or using another regular companion, her laptop computer, to stay in touch with her many fellow artists and her vendors, merchants, and clients in the weaving community across the country. Joni-Dee’s husband of thirty-seven years, David Ross, is an experienced woodworker as well as PhD in Biology, and Joni often commissions from him special wooden components for her baskets. Joni’s and David’s daughter, Lindsey-Dee, helps with the business end of things, and son Craig, granddaughter Kamaya-Dee, and Golden Retriever Cooper are constant sources of delight and inspiration.
