Unconventional Creation - Intentional Art - Earth Ethics

Bio: I am a mother, a maker, a dreamer, and a lover of all things Natural. As a homeschooling mom of four, I've been blessed with days where we follow our noses and explore our desires. Inspired by what we experience, we return home and channel it into art! Through this way of life, I do my best each day to stay aligned with joy, fun, a

nd ease! Unconventional Creation: When I first tried my hand at sewing, I hated it. Although the idea of creating with fabric was calling to me, the traditional “by the book” patterns were a huge deterrence. I wanted to be free from the confines of the pattern. Not knowing how to do that, I decided to step away for a few years. After my first child was born, I felt the calling again. I picked up an old pair of my husband’s jeans and a piece of fabric that I’d been carrying around for years, put them together and voila, an apron! I loved it. I felt so free. I continued to play around with my newly channeled creativity until I became bored with “just sewing.” I liked the idea of mixing elements together and using more than one genre of crafting to create. Again, I stepped away for another few years. When my fourth child was born, we moved from Florida to Maine. One wintry evening, my dear friend and neighbor paid me a visit and taught me how to hook wool! Good gravy, I had never felt so in love with crafting! (And I’ve been a die-hard crafter since age 5) I quickly hooked my way through four tapestries. But once again, it still felt like something was missing. As much as I enjoyed hooking tapestries, I wanted my art to be useful, not just an item on display. That’s when the idea flowed to me…an embellished hand bag with hook art incorporated into it! It allowed me to sew, hook, embroider, and engrave all on one project! Upon completion of my first one, I can happily say that it’s been four years now and the creative inspirations and desires continue to flow through me. I found a way to express my creativity, my way! Intentional Art: To me, intentional is a state of being. When I feel the urge to create, I often identify one intention that stands out above the rest. It can change by day, but there’s always one obvious, deliberate intention. It could be the joy I intend to bring to another; through my own joy in customizing a product for a particular client. Perhaps it’s the intention of letting myself flow into the creative process and out of worldly society. Or maybe it’s the intention of bringing new life to an old forgotten item. But no matter my intention, it’s always positive, productive, and filled with delight! Earth Ethics: Since I was a young girl, our amazing planet has continually filled me with awe and wonder and gratitude. We are truly of the Earth. Through this moral obligation, I want my creations to flow with the ethics of Earth-conscious beings. Every one of my crafts is composed of second-hand goods, by-products, and re-purposed items. I choose elements like wool, wood, metal, and leather (to name a few) that I feel are of a more natural origin.
