To really capture the magic of the season, Twentieth Century Fox really did film the store scenes at Macy’s iconic Herald Square store in New York! Those scenes were filmed at night to keep from missing out on customer traffic.

We’ve got a little holiday magic of our own waiting in the wings next month! Join us at The Eagle to see MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET brought to life on stage. Performances run November 6-15, and we can’t think of a better way to kick off the Christmas season. Gather your merriest bunch and see it together! Tickets available at https://bit.ly/PGSH_34thStreet .

We had so much fun sharing the space with otschildrenstheatre this week as we revisited the iconic “I’ve Decided to Marry You” number from A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder! It was a first time that our two performing arts groups spent time together at The Eagle, and we hope it’s the first of many! 🎭

Many fans of the film version know about how William Frawley (best known for playing the cantankerous Fred Mertz in I Love Lucy) appears as Halloran, but did you know there’s another famous face you may not have recognized?

One of the unnamed postal workers in the film is played by none other than Jack Albertson. Don’t know that name? You might know him better as the family member that accompanied his grandson to a chocolate factory tour. That’s right—the guy sorting letters is none other than a younger Grandpa Joe!

Unlike the film, our postal characters have names. 😎 We’re also bringing the beloved classic to life on stage beginning November 6! Gather your merriest group together and get your seats now: https://bit.ly/PGSH_34thStreet

Among the first folks to see Miracle on 34th Street were none other than the employees of Macy’s! Hedda Hopper wrote of the event in her Los Angeles Times gossip column on May 3, 1947, "when the picture opens at the Roxy, Macy's will close for half a day so its 12,000 employees can see the first showing." We’re sure Kris Kringle had something to do with this act of generosity. ✨🎅🏼

It might seem a bit silly to be getting into the holiday spirit when we’re not even into October yet, but what about feeling Christmasy in May?!

For today’s Trivia Tuesday, did you know that the original release for the 1947 film was planned for May? Darryl F. Zanuck, a studio executive at 20th Century Fox, figured that more folks would be at the movies during the summer, setting a summer premiere for Miracle on 34th Street. To further entice moviegoers, much of the marketing was scrubbed of any holiday theming. You can even see in the movie poster that good ol’ Kris Kringle is pushed to the back to favor stars Maureen O’Hara and John Payne!

Despite this risky release tactic, the film was a surprise success at the box office, pulling in four times the cost of production. The film remained in rotation at theaters through the holiday season, so when it was time to really get into the spirit, folks had already fallen in love with the story and were eager to see it again.

It’s Trivia Tuesday! From now until we open MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET, we’ll share a few fun facts about the beloved film that the show is based on.

During the height of studio filmmaking, it’s interesting that the 1946 film was largely filmed on location in New York. The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade that you see in the movie was footage of the actual parade from that year, and yes—Edmund Gwenn (who played Kris Kringle) really was at the end of the parade. How cool would it have been to see THE Santa in his sleigh?!

We can’t wait to share more trivia and behind-the-scenes peeks at our own production of MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET soon! If you’re already in the holiday spirit (we won’t judge), get your tickets with your favorite merry-makers at https://bit.ly/PGSH_34thStreet. We open November 6th! 🎅🏼🎄
