🎨 Stop guessing where to put that nail! 🖼️✨
The #1 mistake people make when hanging art? Hanging it way too high. Here is the simple gallery rule that will make your space look instantly curated and balanced:
📌 The 57-Inch Rule
Aim to center your artwork 57 inches from the floor to the center of the piece. This is standard eye level used in museums and art galleries!
📏 How to measure it in 4 easy steps:
1️⃣ Measure 57 inches up from the floor and make a light pencil mark. (This is where the center of your painting should be!)
2️⃣ Measure the height of your painting and divide by 2.
3️⃣ Measure the distance from the top of the frame to the taut picture wire or hanger on the back.
4️⃣ Subtract that wire distance from your half-height number. Add that result to 57 inches—that's exactly where your nail goes!
🛋️ Hanging above furniture?
If you’re hanging art above a couch, headboard, or console table, skip the 57-inch rule and leave 6 to 8 inches of breathing room between the bottom of the frame and the top of the furniture piece. This keeps the art feeling connected to the room rather than floating away!
💡 Pro-Tip: Got a massive, oversized canvas? The center can bump up slightly to 60 inches, but keeping it lower creates a cozy, grounded feel.
Save this for your next home update or gallery wall project! 🔨✨
