1940 Indian 440 ❤️💙🖤

The 1940 Indian 440 is a classic motorcycle known for its inline-four engine and Art Deco-inspired styling. It was the first Indian model to feature plunger rear suspension and full-skirted fenders, making it a significant step in the evolution of the Indian Four series. Despite its popularity, it was discontinued in 1942 due to the company's focus on military production during World War II. The 1940 Indian 440 retained the 1265cc inline-four engine, known for its smooth and powerful performance. This new suspension system, introduced in 1940, provided a smoother ride compared to earlier models. The art deco-style fenders were a major styling change and became iconic on Indian motorcycle.It was equipped with a three-speed hand-shifted transmission. At $1,000 in 1940, it was an expensive motorcycle, and its high production costs contributed to its discontinuation.

Gloria Tramontin Struck has been named Grand Marshal of the 85th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
She began riding in 1941 at just 16 years old. Since then, she’s logged over 650,000 miles, crossed every state in the continental U.S., tackled the Alps on a motorcycle, and still makes her way from New Jersey to Sturgis and Daytona each year.

It is time. Time for Dennis to retire. Time to ride off into the sunset. Time to enjoy life. Indian Motorcycle of Springfield will close on June 28th. I thank everyone for the great memories. Indian Motorcycles have always been a part of my life and will continue to be. I hope to see you on the road as we go through life. Thank you for everything.
