Firelight Designs Find joy in your creative spirit! Passion in Creating from the Soul

Darlene is all about having passion, and showing individuality in her creations!

Her inspiration comes from nature - patterns, texture, shape, movement, color, light. Darlene is a coppersmith as the warmth of copper truly inspires her. She also works in silver and brass. As with nature, her work is ever changing, flowing on an endless path of learning, growing and exploring! Painting is also close to her heart, and where she began her artistic life journey. Watercolors, acryli

cs and mixed media all feed the creative muse. Teaching both metalwork and painting is a fun exploration of life and the present moment. Join her in upcoming online and in person classes. Check back for class announcements and other ways to explore creativity. Darlene's company, Firelight Designs, has won awards for both its unique jewelry and beautiful paintings. Commission work is always welcome. Every jewelry piece and painting has its own special story to tell, and Darlene loves telling those stories through her art. Check this out! I painted this 6"x6" canvas with acrylics, leaves, gold leaf for a fundraiser at Hardy Gallery in Ephraim, Door County, Wisconsin.

My canvas is part of 300 canvases in a community mosaic project through August 24th. Come see the mosaic, bid on a canvas, and when the event is over, a canvas will be sent to you. You just won't know which canvas you will receive! More information at thehardy.org.

Working on this wolf watercolor mixed media painting. First in an animal series. Over the wolf I placed leaves cut from heavy paper, finished in colored pencil. That added so much dimension to the wolf! What do think? Do you feel her starring at you?

Visited my bass today. All 27 artists' bass fish are in a downtown park here in Sturgeon Bay. It is the last day for the auction. Lots going on. I got up on stage and was interviewed about my bass. It was fun.

Working on a sketch of two Loons. Starting with charcoal (the black and white photo) I was going to stick with charcoal with little color except around the loon necks and eyes.

Well that did not happen! Using chalk pastels I added color (obviously the color photo). The pastel seemed to work well with charcoal so I went with it. More work needed on the water and the background.

This sketch is a process. Just like life is a process. When is the sketch done with color, shading, definition? When are you done with developing, changing, growing? I am not rushing the changes in the loon sketch or in life. It will happen in its own time.

This loon sketch is part of a drawing series of "art snacks" in my private Facebook group, DragonflyMagicART Studio. If you would like to join just type in the name DragonflyMagicART Studio and ask to join! I give members tips and tricks to help creative flow in art (of any type) and in life. It is not a complete lesson in drawing the loons, but tips and tricks that can be experimented with and explored to create an individual drawing. I hope you join us in discovering different techniques and creative ideas.

Exciting news!

This project is done! Check out my brand new fresh water bass on display in front of Articipation Art Gallery and Studio, corner of Oak and Madison in Sturgeon Bay.

She is a summer night sky painted a dark rich blue, sprinkled with 19 constellations you might see during a warm July night in Door county, highlighted by twinkling stars and nebulae, with moon phases surrounding her.

She is one of 27 beautiful bass fish, each created by a different artist as part of "Bass Around the Bay" by Destination Sturgeon Bay. These creations can be found outside downtown businesses and in parks all summer long. Each one is available for sale by making a bid. For more information see www.sturgeonbay.net.

If you like my summer night bass you can bid on her and take her home!

Working on part of a video, "Solar System Quilt", for my weekly "Art Snack" in my private FB group DragonflyMagicART Studio. Join the group to see the entire video including a story from the 1800's about an embroidery quilt inspiring creativity even today. Fun!
