American Women Artists joins the art community in remembering Mary Heilmann, who passed away on Friday at the age of 86. 😔
The New York Times described Heilmann as “an emblem of the professional obstacles faced by women artists of her generation.” Her remarkable career and the recognition that came later in her life, offer an important reminder that those barriers are not simply a thing of the past. Women artists continue to face significant inequities in museum representation and earnings.
