It’s All in the Details 🐟

After so many years observing wildlife, I’ve learned that it’s often the small details that give an animal its character.

Here I’m working on the gills of a tarpon, scraping clay away a little at a time to define the shape. It may be one small part of the sculpture, but getting details like this right is what helps capture the fish as I’ve observed it in the wild.

Coiled tail & full of curiosity! 🪸

I had a lot of fun turning the form and character of a seahorse into a vase. I’ve always enjoyed finding ways to bring art and function together, creating something you both can use and enjoy.

Feeling the Heat🔥

Inside the patina room with Abundant Harvest. As flame and color hit the bronze, all those hand-sculpted feathers and details really begin to stand out.

Game birds have long held a special place in sporting tradition and the lives of people who spend time outdoors. With Abundant Harvest, I wanted to celebrate the beauty of these birds and the connection so many of us have with them out in the field.

After their time at the foundry, I’m happy to have the whole flock back here at the gallery!

Every Feather Begins the Same Way🪶

A simple ball of clay, pressed into place and smeared into shape with my thumb. From there, I keep building, one feather overlapping the next. As the layers grow, texture and movement take shape. That’s one of my favorite parts of sculpting; when all those individual details come together, making the bird feel alive.

How does a wildlife painting begin? For me, it starts in nature.

I was looking through the mist one morning when, out of the fog, a flock of sandhill cranes came gliding in to land. It felt like a gift from the sky. There was such a sense of calm in that moment, and I wanted to capture that feeling in a painting. That experience became Lifting Fog, Landing Cranes.

From an unexpected moment in nature to a finished painting. That’s how so much of my work comes together.

I’m thankful to have been voted Best Artist in Stuart Magazine’s Best of 2026!

Stuart has been my home for nearly 30 years, and I’m grateful for all the support this community has shown me and my artwork. From the people who visit my gallery to those who choose my work for their spaces, I’ve been fortunate to meet so many wonderful people along the way.

Thank you to everyone who voted, and thank you, Stuart Magazine, for including me and for celebrating the people and local businesses that make Stuart such a special place.

A Whale of a Time! 🐋

It may go quickly in a time-lapse, but sculpting a whale like this takes a lot of time and practice. With every pass of the clay, I think about the whales I’ve observed and how their massive bodies move so gracefully through the water.

Celebrating National Wildlife Day!

After so many years observing wildlife, I’m still grateful every time I have an opportunity to see an animal in its natural environment. So much of what I create begins with watching an animal move, noticing its behavior and character, and bringing those observations back into the studio.

On National Wildlife Day, I’m especially thankful for the wildlife that has inspired a lifetime of sculptures and paintings. With that appreciation also comes a calling to protect these animals and the wild places they depend on.

The Final Touch

After all the time spent sculpting, I finally get to see the eagle as I imagined it.

At the foundry, heat and different chemicals are carefully applied to the bronze to create the patina, bringing out the color and detail of the sculpture.
