IDP’S GRADUATING SENIOR…. KAMRYN! 🦋🪩⏳💐
-When you think back to the little girl who first started dancing, what do you think she would be most proud of you for today?
“I think little me would be most proud of the confidence I’ve finally gained. I don’t think she would believe that I put myself out there at conventions and master classes every chance I can, and I think she’d be especially proud that I’ve received scholarships and recognition for doing the thing I love most!”
-What do you think has changed the most about you as a dancer from when you were little to now?
“I’ve changed and grown so much, and not just in my technique or ability. I’ve learned that I don’t need to dance for others anymore, because dancing for myself has become the most rewarding feeling ever… it’s reminded me why I fell in love with it in the first place. That change in mindset has helped me become a much stronger dancer, while also making me fall in love with dance even more 💗”
-Was there ever a point in your dance journey when you realized dance meant more to you than just an activity you did?
“I’ve recently realized just how important dance is to me. Getting to dance with my friends who have quickly turned into family, and seeing how much the younger dancers look up to me has made me realize how special and fulfilling it is to be someone they can learn from 💫”
-As one of the oldest dancers now, what do you hope the younger dancers at IDP learn from you or remember about dancing alongside you?
“I hope the younger dancers always remember me as someone who cheered them on and was proud of all their accomplishments! I hope I leave a lasting impact on them, because no matter where I end up, I’ll always be cheering them on whether it’s in person, a FaceTime, a competition livestream, or from wherever this next chapter takes me!”
-What is something about dance that you think you’ll miss someday that you might not have appreciated when you were younger?
“There have been so many amazing changes throughout my dance journey, but the one constant has always been Brandon. I’ll always miss coming off the stage after my solos and having him run up, jump on me, and give me a huge hug every single time. Whether I’m really happy with my performance or upset because I think I could’ve done better, he’s ALWAYS there, and ALWAYS proud of me. Knowing he’s been cheering me on through every part of my dance journey is something I’ll always hold onto 🦋”
-What has it meant to share so much of your dance journey with your big sister as your teacher?
“I’ll always thank my sister Kayla for getting me into dance. I’m not the little blonde toddler following her around conventions and competitions anymore… now I’m a senior who has been following in her footsteps since I was four. I’ll always look up to her and be thankful for everything she’s taught me. So much of what dance has given me started with wanting to be just like my big sister 🤍”
-What is something Miss Mya has given you, through dance, life, or friendship, that you’ll always carry with you?
“I still remember meeting Mya for the first time and how much I looked up to her as a dancer! She’s given me so much confidence and always reminds me to step outside the box and dance with everything in me. Somewhere along the way, she also became my very best dance friend. I’ll always remember our private lessons and practices, especially the random moments where we’d end up nonstop laughing and call it a day a little early lol. I’ll always look up to her and carry everything she’s given me forever 💛”
-What does being part of IDP mean to you, especially knowing your dance journey started long before IDP existed?
“Being a part of IDP has truly been the biggest blessing for me. IDP has grown from the ground up and will continue to grow after I graduate. My dance journey really started to take off and succeed once I stepped through these doors. I love my IDP family more than words could describe, and I always will 🪩💕”
