13 Stars Design features the craftsmanship of Joel Paul, green woodworker and instructor. Green woodworking utilizes fresh wood from recently felled, or fallen trees and is performed using only sharp hand tools and the hand and eye of the maker. Common tools used are the axe, the drawknife, the adze, the spoon knife or crooked knife, the sloyd knife, and carving gouges to create crisp lines and fa

cets on hand carved items. There is no sanding involved which cuts down on the wood dust and makes for a more healthy and pleasant woodworking experience. Hand crafted bowls, spoons, and shrinkpots are available as they are made, and are sold at local Farmers Markets, or on this page. Items can be special ordered to commemorate a special tree that may have to come down. Classes are a great way to experience green woodworking and many are intended to be appropriate for people with no prior woodworking experience.
