Lambing is finally over. This year I had something strange occur. I had a ewe that was at least 2 weeks over due. I just assumed the lambs had died and eventually she would deliver some dead lambs. I even had decided to butcher her and made an appointment with a butcher. But then this morning, she went into labor. I managed to get out one lamb that was dead. The second lamb I could tell was alive, but I couldn't find the second front leg, which is necessary for delivery. Sometimes they can be delivered that way, but this was a large lamb and I could not get it out that way. So, I more or less shoved everything back in and called the vet. He came and managed to get it out. They thought it was dead, but then it started gasping. They got out a third lamb that was the most perky. So I now have two more lambs, provided they both live. The mother has plenty of milk, so I am hopeful. I tubed them both to give them the best start. What a shock.
Of course, in the process of doing all that the ewes that had already lambed and lost their lambs, jumped the fence into the pen with the ewes with live lambs, so they are all mixed now. Don't know if I will even bother to separate them at this point. We will see how it goes. Nice to be done.
