Lancaster County Art Association Founded in 1936 in the city of Lancaster, the LCAA is a non-profit art association with an emphasis on community service and teaching art.

LCAA's mission is to celebrate & promote the visual arts through the shared experience of exhibition, education & activities with artists, patrons and the community. On the third Friday of each month Open Studio will be held at the LCAA from 5pm to 8pm. The next Open Studio is June 19th.
What do you need? Your own supplies, art inspiration to work on a project of your choice, and a snack or drink to share with the group. Open Studio is open to all members and non-members so bring your friend!
Sometimes it's just nice to work with a group of people rather than by yourself in the studio. Give it a try!

Today I received an email invitation that is purportedly from an LCAA member that I know. While the email address did look like her email address, the body of the email mentioned "paperless post" and that emails from paperless post come from paperless post. Subsequently I did a bit of research on "paperless post spam" and found that there are indeed paperless post spam emails that seek to get you to click the links in them and sign in places and then steal your login information. This is rather nasty! I have sent emails inquiring whether the email invitation is legit and haven't heard back yet. But I am close to 100% convinced it is not legit. So please be warned and do not believe what the mail says and do not click any links. Send it to you spam folder!

Spring Membership Show Decades

Congratulations to all our Award Winners:

1970's and 1980's
Nonprofessional - Kathryn Collins "Splash of Inspiration" - watercolor
Judge's Comments: A playful painting that feels it could be an illustration in a children's book.

Professional - Evanna Morris "Adolescent Secrets 1973" - watercolor
Judge's Comments: A closer look reveals two people in the tree, blowing smoke rings. This painting really tells a story.

1990's and 2000's
Nonprofessional - Dixon Miller "Apple Harvest" - watercolor
Judge's Comments: Wonderful watercolor, good use of lights and darks. The fence and background are not overworked and lets the focus on the bucket.

Professional - Victor Capecce "Some Enchanted Evening/City Lights - watercolor
Judge's Comments: Reading the text underneath the painting gives insight into the world of set design. The artist had to convey to the viewer how this scene would be used as a backdrop in a stage production.

Exhibit Judge: Steve Wilson: Steve studied graphic design/illustration/wood design at Kutztown University. After starting his career as a graphic designer and illustrator, he continues to paint watercolors and acrylics. Steve is a founding member of the Red Raven Art Co in downtown Lancaster and continues to exhibit at the gallery. Seve is also a past president of the Lancaster County Art Association.

Spring Membership Show Decades

Congratulations to all our Award Winners:

1930's and 1940's
Nonprofessional - Mia Curran "Ready for my Closeup" - photography
Judge's Comments: Very nice scene of a single flower, subtle colors against a cream background and use of filters.

Professional - Patricia Keller "Memories from Childhood" - watercolor
Judge's Comments: Great use of warms and cools which givs a certain mood. Old time feel of a child's tea set.

1950's and 1960's
Nonprofessional - Deb Schuch "1950's Baby Keepsakes" - acrylic
Judge's Comments: Fine rendering of old-time toys from another time. Nothing plastic or something that was bought at Walmart.

Professional - Dot Stepenaski "The Regatta" - pastel
Judge's Comments: Wonderful handling of pastels. The water is such a beautiful blue that contributes to a colorful painting. Reflections and varying sizes of sails makes this piece very interesting.

Spring Membership Show "Decades"
Congratulations to all our Award Winners:

2010's and 2020's
Nonprofessional - Ellen Pennington "Red Shed" pastel
Judge's Comments: Beautiful little pastel! Great use of light filtering through the trees. Nice composition and use of greens and blues.

Professional - Joyce Durkin "Blue Poppies" watercolor
Judge's Comments: Amazing number of tiny details! Each hair on the leaves and stems is finely rendered. The contrast of the soft petals of the flowers shows the skill of the artist.

Honorable Mention -
*Beverley Felter "Sundried" watercolor
Judge's Comments: Nice composition and use of shadow. The aluminum bowl with grapes is the focal point, but the shadow really makes it for me.
*Kay Walker "Morning Glory" watercolor
Judge's Comments: Excellent handling of lights and darks. Background really makes the bouquet stand out.
*Valerie Clingan "Cardinal" watercolor
Judge's Comments: The background on this painting being out of focus lets the cardinal really stand out. The pine tree needles and branches are especially well rendered.

Myrtle Tremblay Award for Watercolor

Congratulations to Tim Colyer who won with his painting "Morning Mist - Chiques Creek".

Judge, Steve Wilson: Excellent handling; use of value to create depth in a very Pennsylvania winter day. The subtle use of color and limited palette ties this piece together. The long horizontal format takes a scene that is commonplace and makes you view it differently.
