Bonsai Basics at Wild Willow Farm
📅 Sunday, July 12
🕝 2:30 PM – 5:30 PM
📍 Wild Willow Farm, Franklin, NH
There is something deeply peaceful about the practice of bonsai.
More than simply growing a miniature tree, bonsai is an art of patience, observation, and partnership with nature. Each careful cut, gentle bend, and thoughtful decision becomes part of a living story that unfolds over years.
Join us for Bonsai Basics I, a hands-on beginner workshop where you’ll transform a healthy juniper shrub into your very first bonsai tree.
🌿 During this workshop you’ll learn:
• Bonsai design fundamentals
• Pruning and wiring techniques
• Watering and feeding
• Sunlight requirements
• Seasonal care, including winter dormancy
• How to help your tree thrive for years to come
Your registration includes:
🌲 A juniper tree
🪴 All materials
✂️ Use of bonsai tools during class
$125 per person
Junipers are one of the most beloved beginner bonsai species because they are hardy, forgiving, and incredibly beautiful. Since they naturally require winter dormancy, they make the perfect outdoor bonsai tree for New England.
✨ Meet Your Instructor – Steven of Heartwood Bonsai
Steven’s bonsai journey began in 2020 as a creative and spiritual practice that quickly became a lifelong passion. What started with a handful of trees soon grew into a collection of more than 150, leading him to study under some of New England’s most respected bonsai artists through the Kaikou School of Bonsai and the Bonsai West School of Bonsai.
Steven has taught workshops and classes at Bonsai West while continuing to expand Heartwood Bonsai, his home nursery in Strafford, New Hampshire. His teaching style is approachable, encouraging, and rooted in helping others discover both the artistry and mindfulness that bonsai offers.
Beyond bonsai, Steven is also the craftsman behind White Mountain Essence Didjeridu, where he creates handcrafted didgeridoos from local trees and offers lessons and Sound Medicine Journeys alongside his partner, Gabby.
Whether you’ve admired bonsai for years or are simply curious to try something new, this is a wonderful opportunity to slow down, connect with nature, and create a living work of art to take home.
