Articus Studio

Articus Studio Articus Studio Articus Studio had a wonderful, long run but we closed June 30th, 2020. The health problems are here to stay so Articus Studio will not reopen.

It was the best choice because shortly after I experienced some health problems. So it worked out very well that I did not have to be concerned about getting orders out. Thank you all for all your support through the years, online and also when I sold at rubber stamp conventions across the United States.

If you are local, you can find my handmade jewelry for sale through
Golden Hobby Shop in Columbus, Ohio. If you were familiar with them, they have moved from their old German Village location and you can find them now at: 549 Franklin Avenue. They have parking right out front and also in the parking lot across from them. They have so many handmade items for sale ranging from jewelry to home decor. I seem to always spend my profit in there before I have even made it. So check it out, I am sure something will catch your eye.

Brass Charms can be used in so many different mediums and projects. They add a nice touch of dimension, brass glitz and eye catching appeal. This Elegant Eye Pendant started out as a completely different project- a bead embroidery project- which this is incorporated in this- but I saw a cool turquoise square pendant and used it as the base for this piece. You really can't see too much of it, even though it was the inspiration. Then I saw the eye which was part of the 1st generation of products carried by Michael's for Susan Kazmer. The round rusted metal was found in Kentucky last year. everything else like ball chain and beads were all here.
I really like the brass charm element at the bottom. I carry 2 charms like this, the triangle one and a longer rectangle similar to it, which I have wanted to use in a project for a long time. So I hope you can see that brass charms can add a wonderful decorative element to most any project.

Last week I took 3 of my granddaughters to Worthington, Ohio, to visit The High Roads Gallery and Studios. It is located on Stafford Road just off Rt. 23. I really did not know what to expect but we had the best time- it is a very cool place to visit. They have quite a few works of art on the wall and the local artists who did the work have a studio within this building. They have artists in the studio working on their pieces and they are very happy to talk with the visitors and explain their work. It was great for the girls to be exposed to all these different mediums like pastels, polymer clay, sculpture, acrylics, jewelry, oils and etchings. Some of the items are for sale and a nice range of prices, so they are affordable.
Sculpture was a big hit because the artist had some figures in dancing and gymnastics-which the girls like.
I look forward to going back again and spending more time there. If you get a chance- stop in- you won't be disappointed.

My final post for today regarding stencils is where to store them. There are a myriad of ideas out there. So having storage on my mind one day when I was in my favorite thrift store, this portfolio struck my fancy, It could be easily stored (my house is small) and you could paint on it and stencil it. I gessoed up the front of it and used an Andy Skinner stencil call alphabet spaghetti. Andy Skinner may be a name you haven't heard of, like me, but I really liked his stuff and his website is pretty neat. I used Golden acrylic paint for this. As you can see, you can also use stencils interactively with other stencils for a neat look. I used the Downey Girls again and left the center open on them so the other stencil showed through. There is a stenciled flower in the right hand corner too, acting like the sun. The other picture shows the inside of the portfolio. What better storage solution than being able to use the stored item as the decoration on it.
