Story City Antique Carousel A 1913 hand-carved wooden carousel which operates late spring through early fall in Story City's picturesque North Park.

For the safety of our beloved carousel, staff, and riders, the Story City Antique Carousel will close when the heat index exceeds 100°F or if lighting is present in the area. High heat and storms can place stress on both people and machinery. This proa

ctive closure helps us protect the integrity of the historic carousel and ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all on future visits.

🌤 Please stay tuned to our page for real-time updates and reopening announcements. Your safety (and a cool, safe spin!) is always our priority. COST:
$1.00 for one ride ticket – all riders ages 2-to-adult need a ticket to ride
$5.00 for six tickets – save almost 17% per ride
$15.00 for a 20-ride punch card – save 25% per ride; for sale at carousel (when open) or GCC office (524 Broad Street; M-Th 10am-4pm)

🌧️⚡ Oh no! Mother Nature has decided to take a spin on the Carousel today! ⚡🌧️
With a very wet afternoon and thunder rumbling across Story City, our beloved Carousel horses are taking an early break and heading back to the stable.
For the safety of our riders, volunteers, and visitors, the Carousel will be CLOSED for the remainder of the day (6.4.2026)
Until then, stay dry, stay safe, and keep your Scandinavian Days spirit shining brighter than the storm clouds.

A huge THANK YOU to our amazing volunteers who helped make the Carousel grounds beautiful as we prepare for Scandinavian Days!

This morning, Fran Christian and her grandson Anthony, along with Rhonda Ostrem and her grandson Easton, spent time planting flowers around the Carousel sign. Their hard work, smiles, and willingness to give back help create a welcoming first impression for everyone visiting our community.

Volunteers like these are what make Story City special. Thank you for sharing your time and talents to help keep our Carousel shining and our traditions strong!

We are getting everything ready and can’t wait for all of YOU to visit the Carousel again! The horses are shining, the music is ready, and the magic is just about back for another season of smiles, laughter, and memories.
