✨FRIDAY FEATURE: Faces Behind the Gallery ✨
The gallery is more than the art on the walls—it’s the people who help make it a welcoming, creative place in our community. This week, we’re getting to know Pamela Asmussen! 🎨💛
Pamela’s connection to the arts began years ago, when she and a friend ran a craft business and traveled the holiday craft-show circuit. While she may modestly describe her own artistic talents as “limited” (crochet is her specialty!), she has a wonderful appreciation for creativity in all its forms.
Pamela also gives a great deal of her time and energy to Arts on Grand in Spencer, making her an important part of the arts community well beyond the walls of Witter Gallery. We’re lucky to have people like Pamela who are willing to pitch in, support the arts, and help creative spaces thrive across our region. ❤️
When asked what she thinks a local gallery brings to a community, her answer really stood out:
“The arts can bring a community together in celebration while also helping to heal those who are hurting.”
One of her favorite gallery memories was helping with our gala a few years ago—a chance to have fun, meet wonderful people, and be part of something bigger.
And when you walk through our doors, Pamela hopes you feel exactly what we hope to create: a warm, inviting space that inspires creativity and happiness.
📺 Pamela is a HUGE Asian drama fan, a love that started during COVID confinement. Goblin is one of her favorites, and she says the genre has also given her a fun way to learn more about Asian culture.
🌱 She’s a former farm girl who still loves growing things and has successfully traded the big garden for container gardening and a sunroom full of houseplants.
☕🐈 And her recipe for a better day is pretty hard to argue with: a hot cup of coffee in her hand and a purring cat in her lap.
As for what she loves most about Storm Lake? The people—and the wonderful mix of cultures and creative ideas they bring to the community.
And these days, she’s happily working toward one very important goal: enjoying retirement! We can definitely get behind that. 😉
💛 Pam, thank you for being one of the many faces behind the gallery—and for all the ways you support the arts throughout our region. From Witter Gallery to Arts on Grand and beyond, people like you are the reason creative spaces continue to be places where people can connect, discover something new, and simply feel at home.
