Stony Brook University Orchestra-UG

The University Orchestra, conducted by Susan Deaver, is an all-student ensemble featuring undergraduate and graduate music majors as well as non-music majors at Stony Brook University. In addition, the University Orchestra has a select number of students from the Stony Brook Young Scholars Program and the Stony Brook Pre-College Program. on at Staller Center and has performed a full range of orchestral repertoire including major works such as Brahms Symphony No. 2 & No. 4, Elgar Enigma Variations, Rimsky-Korsakov Scheherazade, Shostakovich Symphony No. 5, Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 4 & No. 5, Vaughan Williams “London Symphony” along with standard overtures and concertos. In addition to regular concerts, each season also includes the annual Messiah Sing-Along in December and a Family Orchestra Concert in the spring. During the 2020-2021 season, the University Orchestra presented three virtual concerts. The University Orchestra, in conjunction with the Department of Music, sponsors the Undergraduate Concerto Competition and the winner is the featured soloist on the final University Orchestra concert each May. Orchestral students are also involved in a series of orchestral readings and orchestral master classes given by Stony Brook Music Faculty. The University Orchestra rehearses weekly on Tuesday evenings and holds auditions at the beginning of each semester.
