Empty Space is ecstatic to present ARCS, APERTURES, AND ARTIFACTS (OF FAILURE): a multi-media installation featuring the work space of Vernon M. Byron and Qasi Pink. The opening reception will be held Friday, March 6th from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the RidgeWell Fitness Center, 3555 Main Street, Stone Ridge, NY. The exhibition features a site-specific installation of a digital collage by Byron, in addition to a series of small-scale sculptures by Pink.
Biomimicry I, by Vernon M. Byron discusses the duality of joy and hopelessness in response to the surrounding environment. This installation connects contrasting spaces in natural and urban landscapes by digitally interlacing two photographs. The resulting image is systematically folded, isolating the view of each photograph to specific viewing angles. Viewers are drawn to resolve each image by approaching from specific angles.
A self described “fQueer fat failure fArtist”, Qasi Pink uses resin to indefinitely preserve discarded food alongside miscellaneous objects. Each piece in their series Artifacts of Failure is the serendipitous result of a mishap that occurs during their creative process. Unfortunate Red Shrimp is the outcome of an experiment where Pink combines the titular shrimp with various immiscible dyes and liquids, these ingredients mix to create an unintentionally bright red. Other pieces investigate failure metaphorically: Because I Can unites two cubes by a hinge attached at an awkward angle, creating an ambiguous, impractical machine with no potential purpose.
