As we ramp up to our big 30th Season of Screams, we'll be posting more often -- images of monsters, sets, famous and not so famous guests, random pics we'll pull from an old hard drive or shoe box and much more. Some will undoubtedly have long stories and some perhaps we'll just drop and let you make sense of them. We'll start with this one, not super exciting, but it's an important part of Netherworld history.
When we first decided to start a haunt in the Fall of 1996, we made the unorthodox decision to create a haunt with original storylines and no licensed characters (Freddy, Jason, Michael etc...) -- doesn't sound strange now, but back then this was virtually unheard of. We also decided to not have any chainsaws, that's a whole other story but in short, it turned out that (although confused) people could wrap their head around a haunted house with no Leatherface, but they were Not At All Ok with no chainsaws...so it wasn't until the 3rd or 4th night of our opening season in 1997 that sweet sounds of the saw could be heard emanating from The Netherworld!

This theme sheet pre-dates the actual haunt and was part of a package we put together in hopes of garnering attention from the media and potential sponsors; it is the foundation for the many Netherworld themes that followed.

We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of the incredible Anthony Stewart Head.
Back in 1998, when NETHERWORLD was only in our second year, we were lucky enough to forge an alliance with The WB. Don’t ask us how we managed to pull that off back then, but for some reason, they believed in us! As part of their support to help promote our young haunt, they had Anthony Head—who was starring as the iconic Giles on the hugely popular Buffy the Vampire Slayer—cut a short promo video for us.
Before the turn of the century, there was no social media, and heck, there was barely an internet! We didn't have a way to share it online, so for years, this vid sat silently on a hard drive. Eventually, we found a great home for it, using the video to alert our waiting guests to visit our gift shop.
We will always be grateful to The WB for believing in a second-year haunt, and Anthony Head will always hold a special place in our haunted hearts.
Rest in Peace, Anthony.
