Join us for our annual 24 Hr Concert, where musicians and composers come together to create music in only 24 hours. This challenge is open to anyone. You may participate as either a composer or musician, you choose! Ensembles will be assigned randomly on Friday, August 29th at 7:00pm in IRH. Composers and musicians will have 24 hours (roughly) to compose and rehearse their piece. The concert will take place on Saturday, August 30th, at 7:30pm in the Recital Hall. We hope to see you all there!

The 28/78 New Music Collective would like to invite you to an open meeting celebrating our accomplishments this year happening at 2:00 p.m. in Buck 113 this Friday, April 25th!

At this meeting we will share the amazing outcomes our new collective format has allowed us to have. We will also be talking about what next year will look like for 28/78 and about how to join us! 

In the fall, 28/78 will be taking place on Monday’s 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. and is a class you can register for! 28/78 falls under the umbrella of MPER 060 (ensure to register for the section labeled 28/78). This is a wonderful way to earn elective/MPER 060 credits while exploring the many facets of new music. 

28/78 provides a student-run space for composers, performers, improvisers, educators, and artists of all kinds to collaborate. We focus on creating opportunities for YOU the musician to make your own art outside what is ‘required.’ We want to program and bring to the foreground music that gives everyone a voice and allows you to share your own unique story. 

This past year, we have emphasized performing new music with intentionality in our programming. We curated our fall performance entitled “Sense of Self & Identity” with an open call for scores and other works we chose to program to bring our theme of self expression to the forefront. This performance is available on our Youtube channel (link in bio!)

We accomplished many more things as a collective this year that we will be sharing this Friday at our meeting. We hope to see you all there! (There will be snacks!)

You’ve met our president and our vice president .rgw, now it’s time to meet the rest of the collective!

28/78 New Music is a space for students of all backgrounds to experience and learn more about new music. We are a student-run group that focuses on making decisions and taking on projects as a collective. Our new collective format this year has allowed us the flexibility to divide and conquer on a multitude of projects while still participating in full group classes!

Some of our projects thus far this year include an improvisation ensemble led by our member .wierd, a mixed ensemble recording session in collaboration with the Owen Hall Recording Studio, an ongoing album project featuring works of student composers, our Sense of Self & Identity call for scores and recital, an upcoming call for scores (information coming soon!), and much more!

Additional opportunities have included a masterclass with Hub New Music, coachings with Theresa Wong and Greg Boatman, and much more! We have exciting class sessions and upcoming guests coming up throughout the remainder of the semester.

Our class sessions are 2:00 p.m. - 3:15 p.m. every Friday in Buck 113 and all are welcome! If you are interested in joining the collective or have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us!
