A Summer Art Class for Kids & Teens, ages 9-18
Quit throwing your drawings away! This class teaches techniques that work and build confidence. Foundational skills are learned. They become the tool to facilitate creative ideas. They become the means to the desired end results. The two wee
k class is divided in two parts:
FIRST WEEK
Students begin in pencil to learn basic drawing skills:
1. Drawing what they see.
2. Drawing with accuracy.
3. Developing the eye to see spatial relationships
4. Understanding and applying tone using a range of pencils from soft to hard
Leads with the objective to create form.
5. Understanding the process of developing a drawing from the beginning to
End finished piece. SECOND WEEK
Students are introduced to color. We use pastel which is the same pigment used in oil paints. We work with the same concepts as oil but without the brushes, mediums, and messy clean up. The process is as follows:
1. Pastels are developed beginning with a charcoal drawing.
2. Careful attention is paid to the accuracy of the drawing and application of tone.
3. Color is applied using the understanding they gained from applying the tone to their pencil drawings.
4. Finishing the pastel – working it up to a sense of realism. In other words, making it ‘pop’ and the viewer saying, ‘WOW!’ You did this?’
