Martha's Vineyard, 1974. Three actors are stranded aboard a fishing boat, filming a major motion picture that would become the first Hollywood summer blockbuster and change their careers forever... they just don't know it yet.
One is an acclaimed veteran of stage and screen.
One is a brash young Hollywood upstart.
And one is an Oscar-nominated character actor just beginning to emerge as a leading man.
They're making a movie about a shark... at least, they're trying to, if only the mechanical shark would just quit constantly breaking! As a planned 55-day shoot gradually drags on to 159 days, tensions boil as they bond, argue, drink, gamble and pray for an end to the shoot.
TWO MEN ARE ABOARD.
WE NEED THE THIRD:
ROY SCHEIDER — Male, approximately 30s–50s. Intelligent, grounded and dryly funny, with a natural sense of authority and self-possession. Scheider often serves as the steady presence between the more volatile personalities of Robert Shaw and Richard Dreyfuss, but he has the confidence and presence to hold his own against both. The role requires both comedic and dramatic range. Overall physical resemblance to Roy Scheider is not required, and newcomers are welcome to audition.
