CWSO History:
The present Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra began in 1947 when the Central State Symphony Orchestra grew out of the late Peter Michelsen's music classes at the then Central State Teacher's College (now University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point). The 50-member orchestra presented its first concert on April 4, 1948 at the auditorium in the Central State Teacher's College. In 1977, the

name was once again changed to the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra and five subscription concerts were presented each season. It was then that performances were first held in the newly constructed Sentry Theater. The 689 seats in the theater were soon sold out and back-to-back performances were initiated with the 1980-81 season. The orchestra now boasts sixty-five professional members and continues to draw both players and audience members from the broader Central Wisconsin area.

They have practiced for hours. They lead in their local school and youth orchestras, and dazzle in solo/ensemble competitions. They are committed to every facet of their studies. Here’s where we get to show them off! Every year, the most accomplished music students from the Central Wisconsin region are invited to compete in one or both of the CWSO or CWYSO competitions for prize money and the opportunity to perform with the CWSO or CWYSO.

Through this outreach initiative, CWSO musicians bring live music directly to clients at CCLS, creating meaningful experiences that go beyond the concert hall. What an incredible start to our Summer Chamber Concert Series!

More than 200 people joined us last night at the Point Brewery for an evening of steel drum music, great company, and summer fun. A huge thank you to everyone who came out and helped make the concert such a memorable event.

We are grateful to our sponsors, Wisconsin Public Radio and Aspirus, for their support, and to our outstanding musicians, Marisol Kuborn, Chris Kuborn, Ryan Korb, and Jim Chwaszczewski, for bringing such energy and artistry to the performance.

From the music to the conversations afterward, it was a wonderful reminder of what makes live music so special: bringing people together.
