How do you say goodbye?

25 years of everything ~ the most magical moments, the toughest tests and 25 years of incredible faculty, dancers and families that brought more to my life than I could have imagined.

Thank you for making my heart so full, for showing up, for believing, for trusting and for proving dance is an education you can use for a lifetime.

So the answer - how do you say goodbye?

You don't - DEC continues on in the students that are out there living their best lives, the ones that feel grateful everyday, the ones that try "one more time" (even when one more time means 5 more times), the ones that will never surrender their dreams.

Thank you for 25 magical years ~ my heart overflows with love and gratitude. I'm always here cheering you on, reminding you that you are too important to cover yourself up, to find your strength in vulnerability and to be the brave, bold artist of your life's masterpiece. ❤

I forget it every year ~

18 years and several days ago, on a beautiful day like today, I stood across the street and watched the first building of DEC burn. I remember feeling like it was the worst thing - and then a handful of years later, I caught myself saying "thank God for the fire."

Life is a constant ride full of all sorts of twists, turns, sudden drops, choppy waters and unknowns......and while we'd all like the easeful floating on a lazy river type of days, I'm taking pause today to remind myself that even those things that feel so heavy and awful can transform into something beautiful.

It's absolutely beautiful that I "forget it" every year.

I forget that on September 17, 2007 I watched the studio burn, I forget about my lost treasures, I forget about the pain I felt, I forget about the fear of how to navigate out of it - what a gift.

Because on September 17, I'm teaching and I am filled with the hope of new dancers and their dreams. I'm present and the gift appears.

So, here is to being so filled with the joy of your journey and live in the knowing that beauty is unfolding.
